Well before Jason went off on vacation he let me know I need to make a decision about mounting system soon...i'm thinking the easiest way to go may be with the factory style setup.

Plain jane tubes with the notches cut and they clamp onto the spigots on the head. That way this really is a "factory" replacement exhaust. This would be cheaper/easier for him to make too...

any thoughts?

well i know i have the clamps that bolt into the head on my carpy pipe and my old pipe, is this the same as the spigots, or would i have to find a conversion piece?  i know, stupid question...

It would clamp on just like the Carpy pipe, the Kerker pipe, or your factory pipes. So yeah it's exactly the same. You could either use the factory clamps with the fins, or even just a small stainless exhaust band clamp could probably work?

i meant that i put the exhaust into the head and use the piece that's dangling around on the pipe with two bolts that bolt to the head.  i don't have the spigots...

OHHH ok my mistake...yeah that's what i'm trying to figure out. The way I was thinking was like the factory pipes...sorry I thought the Carpy pipe was like the factory ones.

Unless I can find a source for those flanges i'm not sure that route would be feasible...if that's the case you'd have to find some factory spigots that bolt to the head...

I don't really care either way, I figured i'd get a consesus from those interested in what they'd prefer since...well you guys are the ones that are going to be using them as well and I can go either route.

well if i get them, then the easier the better, plus wouldn't installing the spigots cause some dimensional issues?  or do the spigots just bolt straight to the head anyways?

the spigots just bolt right to the head, then the exhaust slips on top of those. That's the route i'll probably have him make my set, but i'll try and find some flanges so I can give everyone the option of whatever way they want to go.

Spigot mount is cheaper to make, quicker to remove pipes, but more prone to sucking air (dont notch too deep)

Ah ok, good to know...I was going to take pics and measurements of the Kerker system I have so he could copy that. But we'll see if we can do the flanges...

Lol no worries Jeff, i'm on the pain meds and anti-inflammatory stuff again for now, not doing any lifting or anything. Been getting my special lady to do that stuff for me hehehe. Jason is doing all the exhaust work for me, i'm just giving him measurements and info for what people want is all. The only problem is, the system won't be on a running bike for quite a while now until I can get better to reassemble mine. Unless someone fairly nearby will be willing to come by and test fit it on theirs so we can start it up and get a soundclip...make sure it works well..etc etc. Discount applies to that person of course  ;)

That's at least a month out to be realistic about it though...time to bribe some buddies with homebrew beer to help get my bike into at least partially assembled running shape...

I would think that spigots would not be the way to go. I mean, not every model of the CB750 clan used the spigots, but every one that did, can simply have the spigots removed to mount the MAC way like what Wannabrldln has pictured.

I can get a spigot header off in around 2  minutes.. :o
how long did you say it takes you to pull off the stud & flange version.. ???

I had a buddy that would pull his header  a few times a month to clean his nickle-plated frame...

well i've never had a new header on my bike, so i have no clue how long it takes to pull a new one that's been fitted properly.  i imagine it's not 2 minutes, but Colin wants to make this system as cheap as possible.  granted it might be cheaper for a spigot style, the people without spigot mounts will have to spend more money to make his exhaust fit their bikes.  so he's kind of in an awkward position on how to make it cheap enough but still be as universal as possible...

Spigots are cheap & plentiful..
If the pipe size fits over the spigot, that will be the cheapest..

Plus if you pull the headers regularly on a stud/flange version, the flanges begin to warp with the retensioning making installation and de-installation even harder each time because they don't move freely around the pipe....a slippery slope that's only ever downwards... ;D

Sorry guys, i've been having medical crap still. I've been in touch with Jason about the exhaust but he hasn't made much progress lately from what he told me. If he gets any big jobs my CB exhaust gets kinda pushed to the side for obvious reasons. I wouldn't ask him to do it any other way. Plus with me all on pain meds I havn't had a chance to get to his place to try and help him out more. As it is i've been getting rides to and from work/class.

I should be recovered to the point of at least being able to help him move things along by the middle of March I hope. In the mean time i'm just selling off my extra CB stuff(besides what i'm using for my project of course!)...and futzing around rebuilding calipers/carbs on a cheapy XS850 project. I can't do much of anything else...bah.

send ME the pain meds and get to work on that exhaust!  seriously though, take care of yourself and do what the docs tell you. i'm feeling the aftermath of what happens when you dont right now.

That isn't so much of a problem if you machine the flanges out of 3/8" aluminum.........that's what all modern systems use (Akrapovic, TiForce, Arrow etc). Those old stamped steel pieces are worthless in general

Lol, sorry everyone...this project went on the back burner for a while. My CB750 included. I'll post updates if/when I get any. The next couple weeks are gonna be crazy with the semester finishing up (why did i go back to school?!) I want to get at least a few of these done to be able to try them out this summer...it just keeps getting pushed back. I apologize for all the delay's and getting everyones hopes up for it being done before this riding season started (that obviously didnt work out lol)

Good news is i'm pretty much back to full health anyways lol.
