Low cost work bench
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:48:08 AM »
I posted this over on one of the Triumph forums and thought that maybe a brother / sister over here would find it useful as well.

Hey guys, Here’s a picture of my project I did last weekend. While researching an alternative to expensive lifts, I came across instructions on a DIY lift made from $50.00 in lumber. So, I set out for Home Depot with plans in hand excited about my new project.

The lift is held together without the need for nails or screws and breaks down into 6 pieces. This means the lift can be put up / broken down fairly quickly and can be stored flat or up against a wall making it ideal for those cramped work spaces.

So after a couple hours in the garage with a jigsaw and circular saw this is what the outcome was. I thought it was pretty cool. The front board (Wide) now has circular holes cut on each side where you hook tie-downs to.

The dimensions are 2' wide x 8' long x 2' high.

How hard is it to keep the bike balanced while moving it up and down the ramp?

I suppose it depends on the size of the bike. With my 400/F it probably wouldn't have been an issue. However, with my Triumph T100, I would recomend having someone available to help.

Not bad, flat storage is a plus.  That same sort of design is used for waterbed bases so I'm sure capacity won't be a problem.
