Wow, certainly something you won't see every day!  Of course the big question is what do you do with it after you've bought it.

The problem is...will it be worth more put together and ready to ride? Or is this bike destined to be a boxed dust collector to hold it's value?

I would think that completely crated, it would have MORE value. Just like if you had a fully assembled old bike that had never been serviced up and started, it should be worth more if it stayed in that condition, than it would if you serviced it and started it. Some years back, I saw an old 50's BSA Gold Star that was still crated and the value was tremendous (although I don't remember what it was  :-[

Very nice - but after nearly 25 years in the crate, you couldn't reasonably expect it to start and run without quite a bit of work.......

FTFY.

Yeah, you can figure pretty much anything made of rubber on the bike would be suspect.
Imho, this bike will always be worth more left in the crate.

A sad sad state...those are fun bikes to ride...in a weird sort of way...It's a shame it's been crated all these years in my eyes. That will always be a "collector" bike and most certainly never ridden.

A part of me hopes that a new probably wealthy owner will do the maintenance required to bring it to life...and ride it! Value be damned! I'd much rather have bragging rights of having bought a BRAND NEW bike that I got to assemble...from 1976!!!!

I think the title should read, Still in the Crate..

 uncrated ones are more common..

Bikes are like kid toys, they are no fun if you leave them in the box.

PS: I would ride it like I stole it if I had it.

The bigger question is, why didn't this guy do this with a 1969 CB750 ;) ?

YEAH!

Read a few emails about the situation.  He bought 2 of these. Identical in every way.
Rode one 66K miles.  Now is in failing health. Son bought the UNCRATED one, and the crated one is for sale to cover med bills.

Yeah, i'd ride it.  it would kill me to have a $10K dust collector in the garage taking up space.. ::)
