cool stuff.  heavy bike for that stunt but he pulled it off like nothing.

i liked these bikes from the start and this one sounds tough.

All a matter of physics and good math.  Then you gotta ball-up and hit the throttle.  I suppose you could flip just about anything with the right ramp and speed etc.

Its Bubba Blackwell that still jumps the old XR750 like Evel used to jump right?  It's one thing to do a low-speed low-altitude short duration flip on a heavy bike.  Jumping it a couple 100 feet at 60mph piloting it through the air is in a whole different league IMHO.

I didn't say I had done one or had the balls to try  Just saying it's a matter of physics and courage.  Or is there some inherent incredible skill involved in this that I'm not seeing?

Admittedly there's a tremendous amount of skill in keeping the Harley running long enough to make the jump

Oh OK, was just curious how you knew what to do if youve never done one.  I can say it is a little harder than it looks, then again Ive only ever tried to flip a pit bike.

I only ever backflipped a BMX bike into my lake, and that was 25+ years ago.  I remember when some dude named Jose (i have to google to find out for sure) did the very first backflip on a BMX bike, WAAAY back in the day.

I had the idea of bringing a ramp and jumping my bike into the river. Pretty soon I began thinkin' that it'd be neat to do a flip on my bike."

One day the ABA called and asked me if I could jump some water beds for a promotion. I told them, 'if you build me the ramp, I'll do a flip for you.' So one day I went over there and there it was - they'd built it. I had no choice 'cause they'd gone to a bunch of trouble and expense. I had them get me a whole bunch of safety gear; I had pads sticking out everywhere - I mean I was padded out.

The first time, I said, 'YEAH, I did it!,' even though my feet slipped off the pedals, 'cause I didn't crash and I didn't kill myself.

I'll find more, but in looking on Youtube I noticed there's TONS of Evel vids now up.  For the longest time there wasn't much online, but now it seems there's pretty much every jump attempt.

two thoughts: what a waste of a nice bike... it's for sure a write off. 

and, as he lie there, he looked so peaceful. i could almost make out the first paramedic say to the other "shhh, he's fast asleep."
