I need help ??? Frame and Engine Number
« on: December 28, 2005, 08:09:59 PM »
I need help in trying to identify a bike I am considering purchasing

The current owner indicates that bike is a 1978 cb750 F2, first registered march 1978 in Australia.

Engine Number cb750e 2614273
Frame Number is 750G 1011230

does this sound correct
accorrding to my limited research - engine might be from a K6, don't know where the frame is from??

I cannot assist with any photos at the moment to help identification... -it has comstar wheels front & rear, I think the front has dual discs...

any replies greatly appreciated,

from grasshopper of little knowldege, willing to learn from anyone who is kind enough to respond.

Not specific to Australia, but the CB750 Super Profile published by Haynes in 1983 lists the following for UK models:

CB750F2 sold in the UK from June 1977 through May 1979:

Engine No: CB750GE 1000016 - 1012651
Frame: CB750G 1000014 - 1015084

So that frame number would match up with the UK version of the CB750F2.  The US market F2 (1977) had a frame number starting with CB750F-2100011 and the F3 frames started with number, CB750F-2200001

The best match for the engine I can find comes from the US model data I have online at  http://www.sohc4.net/?q=node/120

1977 CB750F engine: starts at CB750FE-2600004.  The next series in the US, the F3 has engine numbers starting with 3100001.

If this bike was originally shipped into the Australian market, it is certainly possible that they used the same frame designation as the UK bikes and engines that were in the same serial number series as the US models.

I have a more comprehensive chart for K model numbers worldwide at http://sohc4.us/?q=node/122.  I do not know where the information came from, but if anyone can get me similar information for the F models, I'll update the website.

thanks glenn

much appreciated... after another 3 hours of searching the forum and researching most of the links I gave up, not on the bike, just researching the numbers.

the item in  question is on ebay per the link below... anybody think it is worth the present amount of $200 AUD..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4600346905&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

I had a few more photos of the tank & carbs emailed which hasn't persauded me either way yet..

to buy or not to buy????  ???

Parts alone are worth more than the price you quoted but it will take a shedload more to bring back to A! condition. If it is an F2 engine parts are geting scarcer and dearer but any 750 sohc will fit. If you got the time and more importantly space go for it
