RC Rods
« on: December 05, 2009, 02:16:56 PM »
Inherited fathers 73 836 drag bike. It is now my bracket racer. i will be going through motor this winter, most likely going with 850 kit. right now it has powroll camshaft, pistons, and RC cast iron rods, wondering if these rods are worth kepping or if i should upgrade to something else. Thanks.

Those RC rods are modified stock rods. 2 versions. One was shot peened and had bronze bushings in the small end. The other was the same with upgraded larger bolts.

As long as they are good they are better than stock rods. They will work fine with what you are doing. If you do some major HP increase such as 900, 1000, serious head work etc then you might want to upgrade to Carrillos which are lighter and will handle all the HP you can throw at them.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Jerry's right you shouldn't have any problems with those rods. RC used those rods in thousands of motors. RC used golden rods in their bigger motors like the 1000cc cobra motors and the 1080 motors. RC engineering was very good at building their engines; I know because they built my first 1080 stroker. You can trust any of their engine parts from the past. Have fun racing.
