Honest Parts Dealers?
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:43:45 PM »
Anyone know of any honest US motorcycle parts dealers who show you on their web sites what parts they actually have in stock? I've been stung repeatedly by dealers web sites that list the full Honda parts catalogue, sucker you into giving your credit card & personal info, post a charge to your account for parts, then tell you a week later they never had them in stock in the first place. I'v found two honest ones in Europe I heartily recommend:

David Silver Spares in the UK: www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/

Classic Motorcycle Supplies in the Netherlands: www.cmsnl.com

Both  show what parts they have in stock and deliver the good promptly. Just hate to keep sending my money overseas, in case there are ANY (??) honest dealers in the US who tell the truth in their web sites about what they really have in stock?

UPDATE 11/26:

Just tried the 4 recommended below, and only one indeed does tell you their honest parts inventory:

Hmmm....that does not make me feel appreciated!  ???
I am honest and I live in the uSA, but all the parts I sell are used. (well mostly)

There is a Honda shop in Phx called North Valley Honda I used to work at. Real good people there and they ship just about anywhere. There is a older guy named Mike who is a bit gruff, but knows his stuff. I don't know about their website, but they may be able to help better than your local parts dept!

I recently came across www.HondaPartsNation.com They state on the fiche listings if it is no longer available. They give a full listing of superceded parts as well as if something changed during the model, they give up to what engine or frame # it is good for. This has come in handy on my '69 CL350 since my bike was technically a leftover '68 that was titled a '69. It was early enough to be in the early batch of some things, later batch for other things to be included in some of the improvements. They also are about 20% cheaper than everyone else, all the time.

For carb kits, I've recently dealt with www.Motorcyclecarbs.com They were a lot cheaper for Keyster kits than anyone else I found. It took less than 2 weeks to get them and I saved about $35 overall for 4 kits on hard to find '79/80 CB650 sets. The "sirius" guys on feebay didn't even come close on price for the exact same kit.

I've had good luck with Z1 Enterprises. Their exhaust gaskets alone are less than 1/2 what Honda charges. Good prices on brushes, oil filters...

They are fairly dirt cheap too.

I am a parts dealer both and I sell both NOS and Used Honda parts in addition to parts for all of the other Japanese manufacturers, and I do show the actual part that I am selling on my website.  You need to do this especially if it is a used part.  Also I will be honest that my prices are a little bit more expensive when compared to ebay, etc. but I have to take the time to inspect and test all of my used parts.  It is very embarassing to have someone buy a CB750K2 Stator from you, only to get and then get it and find out it doesn't work.   All I ask is that you please help support us and buy parts from us instead of ebay.  Just because we provide a quality of service you will never find on ebay.

Wow, thanks guys! To recap, here are 3 US parts dealers who seem to tell the truth about what they have in stock on their web sites:

cyclepartswarehouse.com
bikebandit.com
www.HondaPartsNation.com

I just tried all 3 and only the first tells the truth: cyclepartswarehouse.com

The other two have the usual complete fiche, make you place an order, then tell you later they don't have the parts in stock. Let's patronize the one honest parts dealer in the US: cyclepartswarehouse.com

I wouldn't necessarily call them dishonest.. I mean when you older parts for are old bikes you have to expect them to not have them in stock. Unless its NOS which a lot of times I'd rather have factory fresh parts then NOS depending on what the part is. I never worry about ordering parts not in stock though as I'm 2 miles away from one of Honda's warehouse's.  :) But it still has to be shipped to the dealer.

What I would do is order from a place where you know the warehouse is close by. Like when I ordered some stuff from Service Honda the parts came from the warehouse here by my house  shipped to Service Honda in the Chicago area (one day) and then back here.. (one day)  Granted it would have only taken 10 mins to pick up my stuff at the warehouse but Honda dosn't allow this.

I have been happy with my experience with cyclepartswarehouse as well.  I wish they could fill orders a little faster. It takes at least 2 weeks to get anything from them but really the stuff doesn't come from them them, it comes from New Mexico. (http://www.westhonda.com/)

Have had excellent results with cyclepartsnation. Have used them 3 times. Just received an order from them Wednesday of 34 part numbers for my S90 project. Took 10 days. Prices also seem to beat Western Hills and BIke Bandit.

I've also ordered from cycle parts warehouse and I have to say, they seemed good too. I think that some sites just don't update their fiche as often. Honda is responsible to make parts available or not, and they've recently re-done the fiche listings, the way it looks. These places just take your order and have Honda warehouses ship it. They are only irresponsible in the fact that they don't have current lists or update them themselves when they see they are not able to fill an order. My local Honda dealer is bad for that. According to them, everything is still available on all bikes. http://www.beavertonmotorcycles.com/default.asp Then you wait a week or 2 just to find out it isn't coming.  >:(

What I hate the most is the feebay sellers, many of them dealers, who try to sell parts on there at $29.99 when it is still available through Honda at $3.50. I'm not sure who they think they are fooling Even when I see those guys selling something at a decent price and I can't order it anymore through Honda, I still won't buy from them. I click on what else they are selling and check out their greediness.  ::)

S90 fork boots listed on ebay for $39.95 (with bids) available from Honda for $22.10. Various clips and bolts from $8 to $15, available from Honda for as low as $1.57. Check dealer sources first.

Case in point...

The side cover grommets for my 350 scrambler...  a local to me business is on feebay selling them for $34.95 PLUS $5.75 s/h!!! They are $7.50-10.25 each from Honda, depending on where you buy them.

The air filters... HondaPartsNation has them for $31.00 each, CyclePartsWarehouse has them for $42.52 each. A big time seller on feebay will sell it to you for a mere $59.99 each PLUS an outrageous $16.00 ship.

Greedy #$%*s. >:( No way am I gonna buy anything from that seller.

ALWAYS check different online stores first. You never know from one part to the next who is going to save you some $$. My biggest savings sometimes is just waiting and ordering a bunch from one place and combining the shipping charges on all the items. Shipping can be a killer. I just put a few screens up, choose the same parts on them, see the shipping and end result of the total and then decide which one I go with that particular time. I usually always buy from HPN or CPW for oem parts because overall, they end up saving me $$$. Motorcyclecarbparts has saved me $$$ on aftermarket kits compared to anyone else though, by a land slide. Those CB650 carb kits are hard to find at all.

Off to solder some wiring and clean up more parts.  ::)

I dont blame them for doing that at all, even more so if they are an actual Honda dealer.

When it started to shift to where many people, try to buy all their parts online, and ignore the storefront dealers, they now can get the last laugh.. nobody is forced to buy at those prices.. and if they are dumb enough to do it, maybe they actually deserve it...

Yea that is why I have not made an ebay purchase in years.. In the beginning it was a good if not great deal then all the books on how to scam er get the most cash from ebay buyers came out and snipping tools and fees etc.. I would go there if I could not find it any place else. So far that has not been the case.

Just my 2 cents worth..

Honda Parts ...hmmmm

My advice?

Find a reputable Honda dealer that has a knowledgable Parts guy.

ANY Dealer with half a brain can find out if the part is available from Honda while you wait.

ANY.

It just take someone with half a brain to look it up. Most can't be bothered.

I deal with my local shop.

I deal with ONE guy there and ONE guy only. The rest I don't talk to.

If he's not there I don't go in. (He's off Tuesdays and thier closed Sundays)

I see what the part price is....and the List price.

I don't pay list and I get a 15% discount to boot.

I've yet to match what my dealer can do on the internet or from any of the "big" suppliers.

Plus I don't pay shipping.

It pays to have a relationship.

Stranger in a strange land
