Any Idea What This Is?
« on: November 27, 2009, 02:01:16 PM »
Could be my 85' Dodge Shelby (Turbo) Charger. ;D   Gonna have to get serious about getting some projects gone now. :)  Got a deal on it!

What do you all think? ??? Kinda wanted one since they first came out. Engine has been gone through with all new parts, Transaxle is from a Daytona Shelby Z and has all new parts, New Turbo, and all related items, Everything works amd Clear Florida title. Yeah, I have to go to Florida to get it. Engine and transaxle has about 1,900 miles on it since work was done.

Well I Do belong to a couple of forums but they are for the later Mopars. You see, about a year ago, I was looking around for a place to talk the old Chargers and next thing I knew, I found ChargerZ (which is about the NEW Chargers but they also cater to the OLD ones as well). When I got the GTX, it wasn't long before I was invited to join the newly organized Arkansas Chapter of the group called the Great Plainz Modern Mopars (even though my Mopar ain't modern). I'll tell you, I sure figured that folks would jump on that Shelby Charger. Course SOME folks won't want it if it isn't totally Original. Back in 84' I bought a New Plymouth Turismo 2.2 and that little car sure would Scoot! And the Shelby Charger is hotter than that. ANd talk about taking those "Twisty" roads! ;) I AM going to have to do some "House Cleaning" though. ::)

Those 80s maybe even earlier 90s? turbo dusters could move for what they were too.  Surprised the hell out of me when I raced a kid back in high school with his "beater" he might of  upped the boost or something too though.

I personally have never had any experience with the Turbo versions. I had an 84' Turismo 2.2 (closest Plymouth version of the Shelby, nonturbo, Charger) and IT was a pretty good runner and cornered like crazy. My Turismo came with 2.2/2barrel carb/5sp/14" wheels with Goodyear Eagle GTs all the way around (even the spare). The little car had some guts to it. I held off an 80' Camaro on the freeway ( he was trying to pass), out run a buddy's 83' Chevy Pickup w/ 350 and a 4sp AND another buddy's 84' Ford truck w/ 300ci Six and a 4sp. I'll be able to realize just how well they run, in a few days, when i go and pick up this one. ;)

Sounds Cool! 8) Pictures? I'm open to conversation about any Turbo cars here. I HAVE read about the Buick ran National Turbo cars, Back When.

I posted this with the title "Any Idea What This Is?" because there are SOME folks out there who only relate to Carrol Shelby, with Fords (Mustang & Cobra).

When I was a kid, we had a 78 Buick Skylark.  If the engine (305) was cold an you punched it it would stall, when warmed up it would just sit the back bumper down and scat like a scalded cat.  Couldn't get it to spin the tires, and at the time it would take the local Firebirds and Camaros.  Boy I miss that car, should have bought it from Dad when he sold it.

Hottest thing WE owned, by the time I was in High School was a 65 Dodge Dart  Wagon with the 225 Slant Six! ::) Now, while that was NO HP rig,it had some fair pickup. Dad wasn't into V-8s and I think THAT was our 1st car with an Automatic trans, not to mention our 1st NEW car! I graduated in 66'. Sure was a LONG time ago!

Jeff, by the time the 85' Shelby Charger was built, I had been married for 14yrs and Karla was 7yrs old. :) Karla had been into the seizure problems for some time AND we had NO money to spend on a car (or a bike) that would be for pleasure and good times. No, everything WE had was what we had to have, with only a little extra (if we were lucky). Like YOU I lusted for the Shelby Charger, the Daytona and everything that was built for years.

Gotta go, the heat/AC repairman is on his way and I have to get ready so he can fix my broken Heater. ;)

Well, kinda (maybe a little attempt at collecting) but, I don't have the money to do any serious collecting though. Even if I did, I don't really have the good sense to know when to stop. ::) I have to go, the repair man is here to fix my heat system.

A friend was a Dodge salesman in the 80's and loaned me a GLH-S for an afternoon. Glad I was in the center of the road when I punched it. Took about 90 degrees of opposite lock to offset TORQUE STEER :o  :o :o

Yeah, that can be quite a bear to overcome. I go get the Shelby Charger this coming week, though not sure exactly what days I'll be gone, just yet. Could take up to 3 days, depending on how much sleep I get. ;)

Man, the seller sent me some photos by email, ALL FORTY of them! :o 8)

They're gonna put down on paper, everything that was done to the car (particularly the engine and transaxle) and the particulars about the car that I should know. I told them that anything they wanted me to know about the car, should be put down on paper because I don't have a very good memory. ::) Man, they were using Mobil 5000 oil and were changing it every 2 weeks, need it or not!
