First time reassembling carb rack...is something wrong?
« on: November 28, 2009, 04:38:27 PM »
Hey Fellas,

I need a quick view and opinion on my first attempt to put these things back together.  Do these look correctly assembled?

These are from a 78 CB750F. PD-42A.

I am mostly concerned about the link arm orientation because 2 of the 4 throttle valve rest lower in the carb body than the other two.  None of the manual picture show a top down view of the link arms installed inside the carb body for the entire bank of carbs.

Also concerned about the spring tension at the throttle stopper.

Thanks for opinions and help.

Mike

The return spring should be firm, but easily opened with just a finger.

The slide heights are independently adjustable except for #2 which is fixed.  The bench sync procedure will "synchronize" the positions of slides 1, 3 & 4 relative to #2.  I prefer Lloyd's "Flashligh Bench Sync" procedure over using say an 1/8-inch drill bit.

Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Is the flashlight method the one mentioned in this thread?

I couldn't find a sticky or anything in carb FAQ so I wasn't sure.

Yes, that's how to 'flashlight' sync. your carbs...........from your pics., #3and4 actually need to be raised to match #1and2 and then the four slides dropped by turning the idle screw out until they bottom-out, then start sync. process.....
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

i just did mine and if i'm not mistaken the slides on #3 and #4 are in backwards.when you pull them out you will see the slide has a slight curve on one side of it which should be turned facing your air filter side.when you look at #1 and #2 linkage from the top view you will see the the brass linkage has a curved end to it and 1 ,2 are the same and 3, 4 are opposite.

Thanks Pinnacle.

This was my concern.  Like I mentioned, I couldn't find a top view of the link arms installed.  In the manual, they have a sentence about making sure the slut in the valve (slide) body faces towards the choke valve which honestly made no sense to me.

Perhaps this accounts for how far off the slide heights are?

Thanks,

Mike

I just looked closer and #3 & 4 slides were backward compared to 1 & 2.  The shorter face of the slides are now all facing the air filter side when installed on the bike.

The slide heights are now almost identical, pre bench sync.

Thanks a lot Pinnacle!!

Really glad I posted...Not sure how long it would have taken me to figure this out had you not caught it.
