harley xr1200 joyride
« on: November 22, 2009, 10:22:12 AM »
went to the cycle world sickle show in san mateo yesterday. ducati stunt team was insane! anyways they have test rides you can go on. you always have to ride in a pack and they usually go 5 under the limit.

for some reason they let people riding sportsters go off on their own. you are supposed to follow a route but it wasn't marked well at all. I waited 2 hrs to ride a xr1200. I took my 1st opportunity to go off the route. was supposed to be 20 mins. I rode it for about an hour. :P woops!

awesome to ride. at first I felt like I was way too high up. but you get used to it. and you have a lot of room to move around and tuck down into the wind. I did the ton and went well over that. it hauls! went from 50 up to 115 or so a few times to see how fast it would do it. only a couple seconds! luckily there were no cops since I was way off the route. I would probably put slightly lower bars on it if I had one. and I couldn't put my feet all the way flat on the ground, almost though. I'm 5'7". I dug it. still wouldn't buy one, though. it's super heavy, and the brakes aren't the best.

I've never bought a new bike. starting to think about it. up until recently I've never had anything newer than 78. but I just bought a 89 cbr just cuz I wanted to see what my other bikes grew up to be.(I've had 11 cb's) thinkin bout it though. the xr is cool, but I kinda dig the new hypermotard in the smaller size. and kawasaki has a bike called the er6n that looks killer. ninja 650 minus plastic. all blacked out. if the xr came in the 880 size and all black, I would prolly lean towards that. might just wait for Honda to finally make something cool in the US, though. keep it in the fam.

What did they say when you came back?? It had a GPS on it, so they can find it, I assume.

 Nice long test.

Had a buddy.. group test rode the new Triumphs a few years back.. they asked him to not come back.. :o

actually she was really cool. I told her before I left that I didn't know the area. I was kind of planning something like that if I could get away with it. they have cops along the route and I wanted to avoid them so I could see what it would do.

when I got back I said sorry, and she asked if I was ok and told me it was their fault for not marking the course well enough! awesome. I'm a super polite guy. always say please and thank you, and hold doors and stuff. have a baby face, too. helps me get away with a lot more than the rude guy.

I recently saw the xr1200 in a couple mags and I have to say, it is the only hd I like in terms of looks. Most HDs are layzboys on wheels but that one actually looks like a motorcycle!

I do like the look of the XR1200, but if you hadn't mentioned what bike you were talking about I would've thought it was my CB750.  ;D

If you liked that and the look of the motards I would suggest riding a buell lightning. Great riding position, tons of usable power under 140, brakes are amazing and right now they can be had for super cheap.

actually, that's another of the bikes that I like. it used to be easy I would just look for cb's under a couple hundred bucks (when they were cheap - before everyone else wanted one).

but I feel like getting something newer and different. experience new technology. some buell's are great looking.

my girlfriend has perfect credit and really wants a new ninja 250. I tried to talk her into a buell blast, but she doesn't like it. she has a ninja 250 now. doesn't like it's looks(beat-ugly) wants a new one. so I'm thinkin with my so-so credit, and working under the table, maybe I could get credit if they thought they could sell to both of us. but not just her.

kawasaki has a er6n that I sat on and fiddled with, but couldn't get a test ride on. it's only $6700 new. all black naked. basically a ninja without his gi. ;) looks cool.

I thought the 6n looked pretty decent. The bars do not so low either which helps.

Storz is the company you're thinking of. they did the components for the original xr750 i think.

Don't ever buy a new HD man. Its not worth it. You can find a new used one with Low Mi for cheep. We live in CA man. There are all the bikes that have been bought by guys who don't know how to ride and don't take to it. So the bike sits for 4 years and they sell it with 5,000 mi on it. Right now in the bay HDs are selling for cheep if you look hard. Look around Chico as well. The econ is sooo bad there right now people are selling everything.  I saw a 2005 1200XL with hard bags, faring, large after market gas tank, new carb and pipes. Ect ect. sell for 4500. The bike had less than 10,000mi on the motor.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

I don't really like any harleys at all, except for the xr1200. I really doubt I would ever buy one. just wanted to ride it. it's still too big and heavy for me. I like smaller bikes. my cb750 is plenty big enough for me, anything bigger is kinda overkill and starts to be more about ego that function.

as far as a new bike the whole idea was to get financing, and that I've never had anything new before. but a couple years old is still new in my book.

I'm putting most of my 'to blow' money into my 750 rebuild. but I could afford a monthly payment kind of thing. my truck is payed for and I just paid off my dentist and am almost done paying my credit cards.

so I was considering financing a newish bike if possible. still kinda like that Kawi. the triumph street triple is cool in the smaller size. duc hypermo in smaller size or monster, too. but every jerk off in SF has a monster. that and the sv650 are the 2 most common bikes here. want somthin dif. wish honda made somthin cool for the US. don't want a bunch of plastic(cbr). and I already have a real classic so I don't want anything too retro.

cb750 will not be done for another 3-6 mos.

by the way your 750f in the avatar looks killer. like the seat. kinda trackerish.

what about ninja 250's? the one she has now has had some stuff done to it by the PO. it's so light and plasticy it feels like a toy. which makes it feel cheap, but it also hauls. for a 250. it does the ton no problem. I'm pretty sure the guy did engine work, cuz it seems faster than stock would be, but I could be wrong.

anyways, I'm assuming they have super cheap components all around, but they're priced right! and no one else makes small bikes in America.

Honda makes awesome bikes in every size you could want. in japan. >:(

check out these awesome beauty's. brand new 400-4's! nice piggy back dual shocks. slick and black and awesome. they have killer bikes over there! bastards!

wow, I guess the Blast does suck. I thought small people liked it a lot. I love riding my girls ninja. but I've always liked small bikes. I like to ride it like a skateboard. throw it around and go up on the curb and through the yard, up and down stairs. :P it's all beat and flat black. I am obviously a Honda fan, but I'm partial to Kawasaki, cuz they helped make Mad Max(gave 'em bikes).

2nd best movie ever. 1st is it's sequel.

the bandit is very popular here and a good looking bike.

I am sick of the CBR already. too much plastic for me. it was nice to have had one and all. see what my other bike grew up to be. :P

but I'm gonna paint it and sell it. I might try and get financing for something new. if so I'd go for the new Buell Lightning 9x9rvwxx99vnx. ::) the smaller one. it's still a liter bike! I've looked around and I'm really leaning towards the Buell. even if I can't get financed, I think I'll just take the money from the cbr and a bit more and buy a used lightning. the more I read about that bike the more I like it. of course I have to ride one...

http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/street/XB9SX/gallery.asp
these baby's are sick! I love the blackness. and the lack of a huge 'sculpted by a decepticon' tail. and the headlight grill. exhaust is about the coolest of any new bike. and that front brake! upside down forks, nice. everything but the big plastic chainguard is perfect. and it's very practical besides. used ones are very affordable- would prob make more sense. I am just jonesing to have something new.

perfect bike for a city slicker like m'self. usually I take my tools to the job in my truck the 1st day, ride the bike to work after that.(restore houses) so most days I'm weaving in and out of traffic and I have to cross the bay bridge quite often. I actually love lane splitting as much as I hate sitting in traffic.

thanks for the reccomend cafeElite!
