CB360 Cam Chain Tensioner Recall
« on: November 28, 2009, 03:33:25 PM »
I've read about the cam chain tensioner issue on this site.  Mine is a '74 built in '73 and there isn't a stamp on the motor as described but there is the same "colon" stamped in the vin plate on the frame.  I'm wondering if the fix may have been completed but the frame was stamped rather than the motor.

I read over the recall information, is there any way to tell if this has been completed without tearing down the motor?  I can't find a reason as to why the frame would be punched.  I'm hoping the Honda tech stamped the frame rather than the motor for this recall (fingers crossed).

Well, Honda's instructions were to stamp the engine case - never heard of anyone stamping the frame, but I know of many cases where they just didn't stamp anything at all (too lazy, or they just didn't read the Service Bulletin).
Other than a tear-down, there's no way to tell if it was done, lacking the punch marks - even then they might have simply punched the case and not done the work at all. This was in the mid-70's, and things were going downhill in terms of integrity and quality consciousness at dealerships. The dealers were rapidly becoming places just interested in selling you the bike and a bunch of accessories.

Thanks for the info.  I'm going to adjust the chain tension, change the oil, and be done with it.
