WHAT A LOAD OF BS!!!
« on: December 23, 2005, 12:55:57 PM »
Ok correct me if I am wrong.

A person is selling a cb900 custom.
He makes it sound like the bike has a drive shaft and 10 gears! 10! What is he counting every individual gear in the tranny?!

Eldar-

I'm no Cb900 expert but I believe the tranny has five normal type gears and a hi/lo changer that actually gives you 5x2=10 "gears."  Also I think he means to say that his bike is a shaft drive.  You going to buy it now?

Must have been a short run thing with the hi/lo as I have never seen it on a bike. I have seen other cb 900s and they did not have shaft drive that I can remember.

No I am not going to buy it. I am looking at a v45 or 65.

Ha ha, nothing wrong with going off "Half Cocked" Eldy! This model had a 5 speed tranny with hi/low reduction gear, but were pretty common in the US, I'm surprised you've never seen one! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Not sure if you count it as ten gears, but I have a 80 CB 900 Custom that has 5 gears in low- than can switch to high -like a 10 speed bicycle-than 5 gears in high. It Rides like it has 10 gears.

I had an early 80's 900cc Custom model that had shaft drive and a 5 speed hi-lo range transmission.  Hated it, rode it about 2 miles and sold it.  Its still running...I see it around town occasionally.
Well, it's not the fastest bike around. It's not much good for jumping on and "getting into it" with the boys with faster bikes. Kind of a dog. I picked it and a 80 CX500 for 250. They only need new gas and batteries, oh and a new fuse. At first I didn't like it. But, it is a good bike to load the wife on and go for a long slow afternoon ride.
She misses our Heritage :(, but doesn't mind this bike :). She won't ride on the 500 or my 550(when it was still running, before rebuild). But, hell she wouldn't ride on the Sporty either without a windsheild.
Anyways, not a bad bike for putting around.

Hi there, if you didn't already know, I am a world famous plastic surgeon, and I noticed that you have some scarring after your traumatic incident with the deer stand. In the spirit of christmas, and good will to all men, I would like to offer my services, namely a revolutionary scar removal technique that I've developed and have modestly named "Terry's #$%*-hot Scar-ectomy" free of charge!

Yes, of course I will be coming from Australia so I will need accommodation while treating you, I normally stay at the Hilton, but to keep costs down (I see you're "chopping" a CB500, so I can tell that you're not a man of means ;)) if you have a spare room, that would be fine.

While I am in your area, I will need transport of some description to visit local surgeons and strip joints, so if you have a large, rather bland looking Honda Motorcycle with a fairing to protect my delicate surgeons hands from the cold that I could use during my stay, I'd appreciate it, particularly if said motorcycle has at least 10 speeds, to negotiate the snow and ice?

And finally, if you could stock your fridge with VB (for medicinal purposes of course) or at a pinch, a couple of gallons of Jack Daniels and a can of coke would be much appreciated, just to steady my hands while I'm chopping away with that scalpel. I'll bring my own tools er, surgical instruments of course, and a big hammer that I've found most useful as a safe drug free alternative to general anaesthetic. Let me know when it's a good time for you, and I'll pencil a couple of months into my busy surgeons schedule! Cheers, Doctor Terry. ;D

Dr Terry,
Thank You for the offer. On hearing of this my wife went out and bought you a case of the ole Tennessee sipping wiskey, for medicinal purposes of course. And I had made reservatons for you with all the local "Gentleman's Clubs", and of course only of the highest quality for someone with your credentials
But, Sadly, I am not sure if there is a legal limit on the number of Aussies that can stay in a U.S.  home during any given year, and since this year and prior we have already had a guest from Perth, we maybe over our Aussie limit.
I will contact you  upon checking with the authorities on the legal limit. As to the bland bike or any other, it would be of no use to you as we drive on the "wrong" side of the road.
Thank You Again for the Kind Offer,
Lee
P.S. As to the Jack Daniels.....Cheers, Mate! Merry Christmas

CX500 are not good for putting around. the load reversal on cam drive destroys it and usually breaks the boss off the crankcase. you have about 16,000 miles. honda tested them at high RPM (9,500+) its what they were designed for. Even the late models with semi automatic tensioners broke at about 18,000 miles. I seem to remember very late 'eurosport' CX500 had fully automatic tensioner, but it too failed at low rpm

Hey Heffy, what's your Ma's email address mate? I think I'm in love! Hey I'm developing (well spilling down the inside of my neck at least) a new "cocktail" as I type this, it's 1 part Jack, 1 part Jimmy Beam Black, 1 part Chivas Regal and 1 part coke, I think it might just be the new "Flaming Mo"! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

I had a 10 speed 900 custom. The 2 speed thing was just a marketing gimmick IMO. Pretty much usless. I don't think I ever shifted it except maybe once or twice to try it out.

Oh man!  I can see there's no fans of the mighty 900F here!  :-)

I owned a '79 750F, then an '81 750F, and finally an '82 900F.  The 900 was my favorite of them all!  It sounded great, was VERY fast, and looked like the dog's bollicks!  (that's good I think!)  Anyway, I loved the bike!  I forgot to mention, it was comfy too, even with the drag bars I put on it.  Finally sold it, but it was my favorite up to date.

I also worked with a guy that successfully drag raced a CB 1100F, until he crashed it, but he did well on it up to that point.  Now he's into Kawasakis though..

Well, not that I want to "state the bleeding obvious" here mate, but this isn't the "Double Overhead Cams Forums"? While those old CB750/900F DOHC  ;D"Roller doors" were ok, (if not a little, er, devoid of character?) they weren't a patch on the mighty SOHC4's! Cheers, Terry. ;D
