After some reserch today, I'm pretty sure it was a fox. Not quite the same sounds as the ones we have in the UK but even they make different sounds at different times of the year. They would be mating about now in the UK.

This is one of our Foxes, we have a family on the place, though I saw one killed on the paved road down below
our neighbors woods.
