Gasket templates for printing
« on: December 04, 2009, 09:44:08 AM »
My interest in vintage rice burners is not limited to SOHC Hondas. I also have a few other bikes, including two 1979 Yamaha XS11s. There also are great forums for XS11s, which are very active, even though the number of members is far below the enormous membership of this forum.

One of the cool things XS11s owners have going for them is an online library of printable gaskets that one of the British forum members created. You can download and print gaskets on your home printer on gasket paper. To show you what I mean, here is a link:

It really works great. I've used it a few times on gaskets other than head gaskets and exhaust gaskets. Print 'em out, cut them out and install.

Does anyone know of a similar asset for SOHC owners?

Nope, but that's a heck of a project for anyone who has the time. Anybody out there in SOHC-land want to be a hero?  RR

Many, if not most of the gaskets can be made using a scanner provided the part will fit and many of the parts will. I made one as an experiment of a 750 alt. cover gasket. Lay the part face down on the scanner.. carefully  ;), scan it, print it and lightly adhere the print to gasket material. Then go around with an X-Acto knife followed by punching any necessary fastener holes. Not quite a pretty as the factory die cuts, but you aren't going to see them anyway.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I cheated.... Trav-i bought an Emgo kit, and I photocopied a few of the more common service-related gaskets when he was not looking  ;D

These are great ideas.  I really thought I was "Mr. Innovation" but recent posts here have shown me I have to step up my game.  Restoring rubber parts with Wintergreen oil and xylol, plastic with peanut oil, and now saving $$$ by cutting you own gaskets using a scanner.  Brilliant...
