Clutch problems with '75 CB 500
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:18:20 AM »
I was replacing the oil switch on my 1975 CB 500 and knocked my clutch adjuster on the case out, I put it back in, but now I can't get my clutch to disengage the gears at all. Any suggestions?

You didn't drop the little steel ball by any chance, did you?

There isn't a '75 cb500, only a 550, which has a different clutch system in it than the 500. which do you have? That information will help in determining your problem.

CB500's were produced well into 1976 for other markets than US.

+1 on the steel ball.  This happened to a friend who couldn't figure out why the bike wouldn't shift.  It turns out the ball was missing.  I believe it's 3/8" diameter, check the parts fiche for the exact location.  You can download one here if you don't have it.

He has a 75 550, with a 500 motor. I know the bike, just haven't made it over to his place to look at this issue yet.

Hahaha thanks Matt, new problem carb bowl #4 isn't getting gas after I stripped and dipped them. Thinking of taking just that one off.
