73 CB500 - Engine Paint question...
« on: November 26, 2009, 11:55:56 PM »
Hi
Couldn't find this subject on a search, but just wanted to know which parts of the engine were painted silver ex works?
My engine has so much owner-sprayed paint all over it it's hard to tell!

I can see that both crankcase halves appear to be factory sprayed, likewise barrels and cylinder head (?), but how about the cylinder head cover, breather cover, oil filter housing and inlet manifolds?

Thanks - Chris

From what I can tell, it looks like the two crankcase halfs and the cylinder heads but not the breather, cylinder head cover. The intake seems to be factory painted The oil filter does not seem to be painted nor the manifolds.. However perhaps some one else who has restored this exact bike could give you better answers.

I've got a 550 F here. I guess that the engine and colors are the same as for the 500
The paint on the engine was in a bad condition when I recieved it, so all I can say is that the crankcase, barrels, cylinder head, cylinder head cover, manifolds and oil filter case have the same silver color.
I'm not sure about the breather. It was quite corroded and had the same color as the tapped covers.
Looks like it was polished and had a coat of clear or bright silver paint on it as well as the rocker arms side covers on the cylinder head.

Maybe these picture are helpful.
