"Capture", in this sense, is a word used to mean that the event was preserved in video format. Anyone who filmed, took pictures of, or even just drew a picture of this event could say they "captured" it. It does not mean that they're attempting to take ownership of it, but I guess anything can be turned into a competition if you try hard enough.
