converting my k4 750 to run on e-85, possible affordable?
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:16:23 PM »
i am looking at converting the k4 to run on e-85 and i'm wondering if anyone else here has done it, and what else is required besides larger jets? there are stations selling e-85 all over town.

A buddy told me he'd read an article about a street driven, E85 burning, twin turbo, big block Chevelle that was putting out something like 1200 HP....

I'm sure it can be done simply Jeff, you may have to alter compression and timing one way or the other though.

i guess my main concern was the corrosive properties of the ethanol. fuel lines and rubber parts i have solved already but the aluminum carbs and the brass parts inside the carbs has me a bit worried

The main point of E-85 for performance is the octane rating (105, i think), so you won't get any real improvements without either higher compression, or forced induction.  I'm thinking about it for my car (2.3L Turbo at 30psi boost) because you can get 50+ more hp vs 93 oct.

For the bike, probably a waste of $ unless you're really going to build an impressive project....

well, after more research, it's just not going to be worth the trouble to convert to e-85 usage. too much money and trouble

Be careful with compression and E85, it doesn't like much over 12 to 1. You have to start dumping large amounts in to cool the combustion chamber to avoid detonation.
