Sent me home today!!!
« on: December 02, 2009, 11:16:22 AM »
Well after several weeks in the hospital I got sent home today.

I can stand on my own, but cannot walk so well. So I opted for a wheelchair instead of a walker. I'm not THAT old.

My shoulder is almost 100%... I seem to bounce back from those easily, and my legs are weak as all get out but I'm getting back day by day.

I start rehab tomorrow and go every single day until I can walk a half mile on my own without any serious pain. Or so my PT says.

Bad news is I'll probably have to walk with a cane for the rest of my life. Something about pain after long periods of being on my feet.

Legal proceedings start now that I am out of the butcher shop, and my family has decided to come together for once and start acting like they care. I'm Sicilian... so if they aren't mobbed up they are lawyers.... or both.

Never had 4 lawyers working for me before. Good thing they are all related to me. I don't think I could afford it.

My job and my business are waiting for me anxiously. My boss at the furniture store says they installed wheelchairs bumps at every exterior door so I can wheel in without stopping. I think he thinks I actually want to go back to work. lol.

My step-brother has looked after my shop for me and I hope he hasn't made too much of a mess. We've spent all of our lives cleaning up after each other since our parents married.

So.....

That's about it for now. Hows everyone else doing? Happy belated Turkey Day!!

Thank you sir. Just not my year. I saw some pictures of my torn down bike and am really sad that I now have yet another bike to rebuild. Oh well.

Great news Joe, you'll be running around in no time, just like you were after the nurses ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sam. ;)

Hehe you should see the PT nurses.... dear god if I could only walk!!! Oh btw... Angie got me back. Shes a nurse... ;) ...said she'd be doing my PT. Told me I'm getting their most aggressive level. Had all the other nurses and PT's in on it. They were talking about all kinds of crap I didn't need. So she has already gotten me back.....  ::)

This is good news. Just be happy and thank God you do not have to start from learning your ABC's

Thanks man!! Been there once. Looong time ago. Forgot everything, my name, everything. I dumped a bike at Bonneville at about 160. Never even made past the 1st mile. It all came flooding back about 6 months later though.

The more aggressive I am the less chance there is I'll need any assistance to walk. Or so they say. I've never been that much of an execise buff but I don't do canes either.

So..... yea.

Keep at the pt, even though it'll suck especially at first. I'll look forward to hearing about it when you chuck the cane.
All best!

Great news!

Y'know, a wheelchair can be used for some cool races and mischief.  ;)

Seriously, ask the PTs if they don't think you should switch to a walker, in place of the cruiser.  Or even switch off between them.  IF it is appropriate, a walker may force you to develop muscles and balance alot faster and more efficiently.  The downside is, it may tire you much more and impede your ability to work, etc. due to fatigue.  Ask 'em, and see what they think.  I'm not a PT, but the thought comes to mind.

Keep us posted how it's going! Good luck and welcome back to the world!  ;D

I know that when I busted up my leg, I opted for a walker at first...I used my crutches more, but when I got up in the middle of the night to take a leak, I usually reached for the walker.  My sturdy model also allowed me to do dips for upper body stuff...but of course, your PT trumps any other words of wisdom.

Well I'm not entirely sure it would be BAD for me per se... but they gave me the choice for now.

I'm not agianst the walker, I just know what people are going to say.... ya know?  :D

Anyway I start tomorrow. Not really looking forward to it as my friend said she had me enrolled in the serious stuff so I wouldn't look so bad for the ladies. And while I'm all for that.... I'm lazy.

I'll post tomorrow after I get my happy crippled butt hauled back home.

No driving until I'm finished with PT. SUUUUUUUUUUCK.

You know HT canes have certain uses, carrying a decent shot in them< Scotch, Bourbon, etc or a little lead in it so when the smart ass says oh look a crip you can really do a number on him with out raising a sweat, a taser, a sword, all sorts of accessories that could be handy.
Just a thought.

If you end up going that route, i'm sure someone can come up with some sick decals or leftovers from hondapaint. Or you could get it powdercoated  ;D  And i'll thrown in some new brake pads...er, i mean tennis balls.

All joking aside.  I've been keeping up with your story, and glad to hear you are getting on the mend.

Ah yes..... nothing like 5 hours of intense physical exertion focusing on every aspect of your body followed by a soak in boiling hot water and then plopped down on a table to be manhandled by a guy 4 times your size.

If it were a woman I wouldn't complain.... much.... but that was the most intensely exhausting thing I have ever done.

And only 6 more months of it!!!!

I'm pooped guys. This physical therapy #$%* is hard.

Big ups from Chicago.

Walkers are OK, as long as you paint flames or glue skulls to them.  Just saying.

Glad you're up and sort of about.
