a 20 year long quest has finally ended!
« on: December 03, 2009, 09:37:14 AM »
ok, i'm a major league deadhead, i attended 178 shows between 1981 and 1995 and there were a few shows that, to me, were extra special. on july 2nd 1989 my best friend and I dave elkins saw the dead with los lobos opening for them at sullivan stadium in foxboro mass and this was without a doubt the show where a whole bunch of different factors combined to make what was the best show i ever saw. i've been trying to find a copy of the show since late 89' that someone put onto a cd, today i found it in downloadable form, for free! i cant even begin to say how deleriously happy i am. listening to the show this afternoon has really brought back to me, the best time i ever had in my entire life. good drugs, GREAT friends and amazing music all combined to make this a truly magical experience to me.

Funny you should bring up the Dead, Casey Jones is my ring tone. :D  The Dead were awesome!  Now Sirrius and XM have a station dedicated just to the Dead it's great.

I'm not sure about Sirrius, but I think it's channel 57 on XM (which is what i have).  I can't live without my XM now. ;)

Los Lobos and GD in one show Bucky, you are one lucky guy.  ;)

My two favorite live bands at one show, that does sound like a special day.

I'll have to follow your link, I would love to hear that show.

another deadhead here, you should checkout some of Ryan Adams stuff. just a musical recommendation. i think there should be a concert of this on archive.org with Phil Lesh. Adams sings and plays the guitar parts on the GD songs. i also picked up a great live Dead show in Omaha a while back from archive.org

i grew up in new england and they played several venues that were within 3 hours of my home town in connecticut so i got to see all the hartford, providence, foxboro, new york and new jersey, we even traveled to montreal a few times. yesterday on the biography channel there were several programs about rock stars including Jerry, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Mama Cass. i wish there was a way for me to take the programs off of my dvr and put them into the computer.

Bucky, thanks for that link.  The Wife and I (older than you) got a real smile from the music.  I must say, though, they sounded even better when they were younger and more energetic.  Come to think of it, so did we!  ::)

Where in NE did you grow up?  I grew up in Stamford before going to Israel. We had lots of good concerts within a reasonable drive, even without entering evil NYC.

I grew up in Fremont but currently live in Lincoln. I've actually been to Stamford once, road tripped to Denver for a show and camped and Harlan County Lake. We camped outside and the mosquitoes got the best of us.
