Something tells me the "American Center for Law and Justice" is somewhat partisan biased...  In their introduction to the web petition they conveniently forgot to mention it's being co-sponsored by a Democrat AND a Republican.

The legislation, co-sponsored by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.) and Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), was drafted with White House input.

Now, seeing as how this thread has gone all conspiriatorial (with all this talk about (apparently not-so) "secret" legislation being thrown around) I get to say my all time favorite quote...

Don't believe everything you think!   :-*

Yes, I see.. how rights could be taken away from the common man from the vague wording.

But... I think the point of this "security act" is to protect anything having to do with government only.  It does need a re-write, but sometimes you just have to read between the lines.  I don't think anything between the lines in this particular item, should lead us to believe that they are trying to take over the internet.  Suggest your rewrites and move on.

That is how it starts, good intended law that was broadly written then abused later on by some not so honest intentions. I agree it needs to be rewritten if they wont define exactly what is meant by Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network then they need to throw it out. Don't forget to look at the Acta thing going down.

Yeah, RICO laws, weren't those created to only pursue crime syndicates?
Used much more broadly than it was intended to be used for nowadays.

Abuse of government power, does it really surprise you at all with an all powerful federal government?

Jefferson warned us of this...
"Well, Mr. Carpetbagger. We got somethin' in this territory called the Missouri boat ride."   Josey Wales

"It's Baltimore, gentlemen. The gods will not save you." Ervin Burrell

The truly sad part is we gave them the power.. Because everyone wants the government to every thing for them.. Need services not provided by the local businesses? Have the government do it. The more power we give them the more they will take from us, does the term Nanny state sound familiar?

Jefferson warned us of this..
Yes and no one listened then or now.

<end rant> ;)
