2010 motorcycle events
« on: December 04, 2009, 08:25:50 AM »
i would like to plan a few motorcycle trips for next year and I'm hoping to include some motorcycle shows and events. i have to plan ahead because my job requires us to put in the years vacation requests in January. where might i find an events calender that would include most bike events in the midwest and elsewhere? so far I'm thinking a trip from Nebraska to the Bonneville Speedway and/or a trip to Sturgis. I'm big into vintage japanese bikes so a big rally would be cool.

VMD in the middle of OHIO is the weekend after July 4th holiday.  Don't think you could find a neater venue for vintage bikes other than Barber or Reinbeck.  Sturgis is big for HD's and custom bikes, not for vintage. You ride a vintage there and you will really stand out in the crowd....just ask seaweb on that one.

here is a good site for you...

I would definitely put the Barber Vintage days on the calendar.  Held in October each year. Over 400 vendors , tons of bikes to see and you have the museum, race track, auction. It's on a weekend plan for three days. You could actually spend a day in the museum viewing over 600 bikes up close. Worth the trip to Birmingham, Alabama!

i'd planned on going this year but some problems here at home prevented me affording it. next year i'm trailering the 750 there and i'll sleep in the back of the station wagon on an air mattress. i have an old clay Irish Whisky jug i'm dropping quarters and paper money into, labeled the barber fund  ;D only about a 6 hour drive for me to get there

That's a good question, maybe a few members could step up and organize some regional events for 2010?  I'm thinking of asking some of the membership from the New England and New York areas if they want to get together in a central area accessible to all.  It might not even have to be a formal event, we could probably just invade a walmart parking lot or something for a few hours.  (would be funny to do this near a Harley dealership...)   :P

A couple of events come to mind

1 - Rice O Rama in Massachussettes  Here is the link, but I don't see where the 2010 data has been set.  Probably some time in September though...

2. 2010 Moto GP - http://www.motogp.com/en/events/Indianapolis/2009
Information about the 2010 Indy mile that same weekend can be found here:   http://www.polepositiontravel.com/indy/2010/parties.htm

A tour group going to Indy - http://www.aerostichtours.com/book/export/html/322  (While I don't see paying 600 bucks to ride, it does present some good maps as food for thought.)

I rode my '74 to Indy in 2008.  Great trip and lots of motorcycles.  Dirt track was awesome with Chris Carr winning the main - Chalk one up for the Old Timers!
