How many miles are on your bike?
« on: December 04, 2009, 03:06:02 PM »
My 78K is around 40,000

I am considering looking at a 78F with 56,580 miles

How high is too high? I need the F so I can rip my K apart...I fear owning a car

I'm the second owner of a 72 cb500F with 81,500 miles. The top end has been gone through. Never the bottom or tranny (and kind acts like it)
She still pulls hard!
I did replace the swingarm bushings, but he kept it well tended too.

My '76 CB550 has 33k miles.  It's all over the carport right now in little pieces.  Soon I will have the cylinders back from the shop, rebored for the 555cc piston kit I just picked up.

My 70 shows 15,000 probably incorrect, my 75F has 8400, I believe it is correct.

Hey Don. Its amazing how the bikes in our area can be so old and have so low miles. We can thank the winter for that and old guys owning them as they just get put away for long periods and never put back out. Most of my bikes have low 20's or teens on odometer and its not that rare around here.---Eric

I bought my 75 K in 2000 in Wyoming with 14K miles. I moved back to California in 2004 and it now has 21K. It still runs strong and has been through many periods of teardown, storage, etc. but also a few good seasons of road time. I like to call it a rolling project.

My 78' K-model currently has about 54,000. Had to replace the valve seals a few months after posing for the attached photo in the burnout pit at the Iron Horse in Ormond last year. Motor started smoking profusely on startup when cold, man them 30 year old valve seals were baked! The old seals actually shattered as I removed them. I had considered going further while I had it out, but she ran fine so I simply replaced the valve seals and the coin sized head stud pocket seals under the cam towers. Put it back together so I could keep on riding, and no more smoke from the tailpipe.

Have a buddy has a 71 750 since new, it has about 160 on it,cases never opened.. it had 68k on it at the end of 73. It got an 812 kit and cam at around 80 or 90 K, he did the rings a couple times but never opened the cases.

His brother has a 72 750 with well over 100K on it too.

My 73 750 had 5 or 6 K i think when I bought it, I turned over 60 K on that speedo, but I think it may have only been 40 something K on that 73, not sure anymore, it might be the one that I took out a rod in.. 350 miles from home.. rode it back, took out a journal..

Turple Bros Honda in Red Deer Alberta has a 69 with around a 100 K on it..

 A member on here has around 120 K on an F 750

29,400+ miles

(give or take - I'm having speed/odometer issues so there is an extra 150-200 miles unaccounted for on the odometer)   :P
