I don't think you could "love" bikes like real restorers do if you ran a bike wreckers yard, I'd want to restore them all so I'd be no good at all running one. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Maybe that is my problem.
Have a bunch of bikes that Could run,
but I sell them as parts bikes because I don't have
the $ to restore all of them.  ???

How big is your wallet, they have the typical junkyard mentality  :(

But I will help you load your truck, for a small fee  ;D

So sad to see it run that way. My favorite place i go is about an hour drive. Everything piled on 15 foot high shelves in a smallish shop. This guy is a true lover of bikes, and not greedy. He would rather see the parts move through the shop quickly and get other bikes back on the road, Which is how a junkyard should be run. Money made on volume and fast turnover instead of huge profit margins on individual parts. I found the place by accident, and piled my bike with as many nighthawk parts as i could strap to it, for 35 bucks. Easily 250 bucks worth of stuff on ebay.

He even threw in bungie cords so i could get all this stuff home. Really nice guy, too bad he only deals in smaller bikes. No luck getting GL1000 forks from him.

I see you're in AZ, I hope that yard is too. Keep that stuff dry until someone claims it.

Man, I don't want to see what else is hiding in those piles besides lovely motocycle bits...I'm guessing you will run into a bunch of scorpions, several black widows the size of your fist and maybe a rattler or two...you guys can have it all, I ain't getting my hands near it...

Oh no I had to look again!! :'(
Every time I see this lot I want to say a Karakia (prayer) for the bikes that will not be salvaged to ride again.
What a damn waste, but I suppose they just get swamped with what they have.
My local bike wrecker (only one for 200 miles) had an epiphany at Xmas time and decided he wanted to do something else, he sold some stuff, gave away some stuff but dumped all his tanks and seats (some irreplaceable in todays world) and sent the rest (including all the bits for my partners 82 GSX400) to the wreckers as scrap!!!!!!! >:( :( :'(
I better not need any of that stuff any time soon!

Shangri-F'ing-la!

This could be the basis for a new reality TV show.  Take several people and see who can be the quickest to build a running bike from parts scavenged from the yard.  It would be much more interesting than that OCC crap.

There was a show pretty much like that.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkyard_wars

I've posted this here before but no one has noticed.  There is this place in Central New York called K&R Cycles.  It is this kind of place but most of it is INSIDE.  There is a pile of rotting motors outside but this guy just take bikes apart and tosses the parts in to piles inside an old chicken barn.  There is a room where the floor is covered 1' deep with brake hoses; another covered with wiring harneses.  Gas tanks?  You bet.  Forks, frames, exhaust.  It is in Barton, Ny on Rt. 17c.  The owners name is Kenny Rogers.  He's great.  Ask him about his Norton.  607-699-3957  DON'T CALL HIM AND ASK HIM IF HE HAS BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!  He won't know.  He is an old country boy so be polite or he'll make you pay.  I'm not kidding!

If I could buy the whole thing for $50K, I'd consider moving to AZ and employing my brother, nephews, and niece for about 10 years cleaning that stuff up, organizing it, and selling it on the cheap.  As long as I could eat well, have a roof over my head, and help like-minded people restore vehicles I think I'd be much happier than "knowledge" working for the rest of my life.  Anybody want to help me draw up a business plan or give me a loan?  I'm halfway serious.  I'm reading Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew Crawford and it's making me think (never a good thing for complacency).  GnarlyCharlie, you ready to move to AZ too?  My brother could build a custom shop and I bet he could find a slip on Lake Mead for your boat.  Ha ha!
