Topic: CB750 model part interchangability

Hi,

My first posting - got the SOHC bug to return to my teens!!

Planning to build a 750 based cafe racer. Want to incorporate looks of earlier k2 - k6 but struggling to find a bike at the right money, if at all unless already restored.

I am looking at F1 and F2 models, but would want to use earlier tank and sidepanels. Will these simply interchange?

Is the basic frame the same?

Would definitely be looking at using wire wheels as opposed to alloys on an F2 I have seen - straight swap?

Told the F1 / F2 motors were slightly more pokey too - not really important to me, but is this the case.

The F's were a little faster, the F2's had problems with valve guide wear due to larger valves and changed angles. It can be repaired though. I don't think the side covers switch from f to k. The seats and tanks are like a set. If you put a K tank on an f there will be a gap at the front of the seat. It requires a seat switch too. wire wheels come on the 75-76f. disc brakes on the rear. Try the search feature here, there is a lot of info, you just have to word the search properly to find it. The K's had much more interchangability between years.

another tip on the search function is to always search from the "home" page that way it searches the entire site and not just the current forum area. Some info is in the open forum and some is in tips and tricks ect etc....this way it will find all related search info.

Thanks for your comments. My reasons for wanting to use earlier parts is I really love the early side panels / oil tank cap / emblem and want to use this look with a stretched tank. The DME bike often referred to on this site is brilliant and this is what has inspired me.

The k side covers won't work on an f, the tabs are different as are the oil tanks. To do wire wheels on an f2 you'll have to do a front end swap from a goldwing if you want to retain a dual disk setup, you can use f0, f1 or k front ends if you don't mind switching to a single disk in the front. Rear wire wheels will require an f0 or f1 swing arm swap. Here's is a more in depth post about that:

Like Don said, the tank is a straight swap but not the seat, you'd have to use a custom tail (or modify the k seat) to work with a k tank on an f frame. Again, as Don said, the engines are a little less durable in the head due to the changes in the valvetrain, power comes at a cost. If you're looking for the classic looks you would probably just want to get an early k, 69-74, the earlier the faster. From what I'm told they fall off pretty hard after 74 in the way of performance only to be picked back up by the f models. 69 and 70 were dubbed the performance years.
