http://www.elsberg-tuning.dk/recordbikes.html
1974 CB550

32 days and 5,536 miles on a CB550...

http://kerncountykid.blogspot.com/

and a couple years later, 38 days and 9,102 miles...

Forever West

... and all of it in a 4 mintue video

Seen the John Buddenbaum & Eric Noyes 50cc Streamliner at Bike Speed Week in Bonneville in 2007.

Very impressive!

233kmph from a 50cc bike..impressive.
Not one Japanese machine in there either?
I remember when I was a "kerosene cowboy" on my 1965 Suzuki AC50, all my mates had these amazing wee bikes, 100% reliable and fun, one bike that did hang around with us was an older Suzuki A50 (1960?) anyhow it wasn't a pretty bike like ours but we couldn't touch it in a straight out drag race and we all tried. ;D
I was told that at some stage this particular bike held the factory 50cc record for the 1/4 mile which is surprising as the Yamaha FS1 was a very quick 50cc machine.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Beautiful stuff - I love these little bikes - did you see the cucciolo Simon? Mine's about 90% complete now. I had a 1973 GP Kreidler at one point, managed about 120mph on a 50cc machine that revved to 16000 rpm and its power band was 15250 - 16000! Hats off to these record breakers it was a hell of a difficult machine to ride. Sold it on when I was poor though and regretted it forever! Here's a pic though...

What about the CR110  Honda 50cc production racers, which had 12 speed gearboxes. As they went down the straight in my racing days, they sounded like  Zip,Zip,Zip,Zip,Zip as they changed gears. They were good for about 100 mph.

Steady on Jonny Boy, ;D ;D ;D the RC110 started life with 5 speeds, it went to 6 then 8. When it was made available to the public as the CR110 it had the 8 speed box. The factory experimented with 9 and 10 speed boxes in the RC bikes.
I think the Suzuki may have had 12 and I know for sure that the Kriedler had as many as 16 in the box.

I think he meant that they all get to feel like they're 16 again for a weekend....which would be a rubbish experience for you Sam because they hadn't invented the internal combustion engine when you were 16  ;D

Sam, one day at Prees Heath I was shown a CR 110 which definitely had 12 speeds. May have been some sort of experimental job.

Wow John, I'm going to be in a mess when I'm your age, what a memory you have. 8)
Prees heath, now there's a blast from the past.
I remember going there to test bikes when the local fuzz threw us off Padgate RAF camp because of the noise. >:( (yes it was a problem back then as well ) Burtonwood was still operational and Stretton airfield was in private hands. (I think a Shell oils test track, still is today I think)
The only thing I can think of back then was a guy (Lawler perhaps) who was playing with a two speed splitter like on big truck boxes.
I remember it on another bike he played with (50cc Yamaha I think) and I know he did own a CR110, perhaps that's what you saw and REMEMBERED ;D ;D ;D ;D
