My next bike will be a?
« on: December 05, 2009, 01:50:22 PM »
So, fellow inmates, what are you looking at for the next bike?

I mean, I love Bikey (1982 CB650SC Nighthawk), but sometimes I want something more...modern?  Reliable? In warranty?

What do y'all say?

Lee
My Nighthawk is put together with wire and zip ties, burns oil, and handles like a pig.  I love it!

Given my current 'bikes will still be there, the next one to add to those will be the Triumph Speed Triple - the 1300cc one. Because they look great and have storming mid-range - plus the lack of fairing, will stop me going to fast. Might have to change to a single headlight though, which the Triumph purists will hate, but those bug-eyes are ugly.

Triumph Bonneyville is what I'd be after next. I love that classic look.

However, if the new CB1100F comes over the ocean... *drool* I'm gonna have to change my vote.

I looked pretty hard at an SV650 before buying my bike. V twin, fast, decent ergonomics... Around 3x the price, but considering all I've put into the CB not that bad of a deal.

All my future bikes will be pre-62 british.  i phased out most of my Japanese bikes and have my 62 Bonneville. I was a bathtub Thunderbird, and a bathtub Speedtwin for my wife, and a couple others.

I"ve tried talking my dad into letting me get this one out of his den and into my garage, he keeps telling me no! It's getting chrismas lights on it this weekend. It was his first bike he bought new in 74 and he will probably never part with it.

900 SS was my first bike and I miss it more and more every year. The handling is very impressive, and the torque is just unreal! I was 16 and decided I wanted to live, so I sold it 3 weeks after buying it! I will definitely get another one in the future.

V65 Sabre because you'd never expect it, and a CX500 because...well...I have no idea. I just think they're cool.

Yeah the 900 was one of the sweetest bikes I've ever drove, but the maintenance is very tedious...I never adjusted the valves, but its a big job on one of those bikes.

The sohc is defiantly the best bike for the money!!! I never expected these 35 year old machines to be so, well, refined. They are well engineered, reliable, parts are available, not so much economical in terms of gas, but the only ones that are, no one "has to have". (buel blast, ninja 250, etc)  Not meaning to offend, as I owned both of these bikes as well.

I will be buying a 750 next year for a project.

and the 2 valves are the easy ones. ;D  the 4 valvers i think you have to pull the front cam.  They said for the Desmosedici street GP bike factor in almost 18 hours for valve adjustment. thats alot of opening and closing rockers on a v4 though :o

I was a day late to buy another 750.

I've been thinking about Buells and HD XR1200 lately. I'm not a rice rocket guy anymore, I like to get out and ride, so I want something comfortable (yet sporting)

I don't think I want a project bike. I've got enough projects already.

If I had to buy a bike today, it would be a second hand Honda Transalp (earlier series). No glitter, simple and functional. A bit on the heavy side, but it would enable me to travel the adventurous way I like. It produces but a modest sound and... that sound is nice.

But since the old Four is still healthy, I've decided to wait for the electric motorcycle. Simpler, lighter, no sound at all and incredible torque.

Why not something like an ST1100. I can't imagine a V-Twin cruiser being able to compare in the comfortable yet sporty department.

Maybe you lack imagination. The Honda Deauville (which is a luxury Transalp equipped with shaft drive, windshield and luggage cases) has been test-compared with Honda's Pan European ST1100 in many motorcycle magazines.
For me personally the Deauville already weighs to much. The ST1100 - 300 kg! - is even heavier and using it's 'sporty' potential will force you to buy a new rear tire every 3000 miles. Not my idea of a paneuropean holidaytrip.

To paraphrase my middle son, Quincy, when he was about two years old "I liking a Transalp!"

How is parts availability, though?

I kinda like the new US-model Deauville, for that matter.  Except it is too pricey.  But I doubt seriously if I'll ever buy a brand new bike, anyway.

You see, I'm not poor, I'm just broke.  And as long as I have three school-age sons, I'm likely to remain that way!   :'(

Too many dream bikes to vote.  I love torturing my gf with a new "man someday I'll have one of those _____" everyday!

Vintage Hondas: Any small sohc, any twin, cb160, cb350, cb450.  I would really love a superhawk, but I love all of those bikes.
Vintage others: Italian bikes from the 50s and 60s really appeal to me.  Benellis sold through dept. store, for example.  Also Ducati singles, MV Augusta Discos, etc.  I like bultaco street bikes too.  Any BMW from the 40s to the early 80s.
And then there's Britain.  Any 40s-70s Triumph, Royal Enfield, Ariel, BSA, I love them all.
New: Moto Guzzi v11 sport, new v7, any new triumph, classics and modern, Benelli Tre-k adventure style
Dual sports: DR650, dr200, honda xr650, I love all those bikes.  How fun would it be to ride for hours on and off road!
So ultimately my next bike is the one from this list that I can actually afford to buy.  547 said it right!
