Check the plug on the back of the ignition switch.

Also, check the wires around the fusible link (on the starter switch if the same as my CB650SC).

While you can start and run without the charging system, you can't do crap if the circuit throught the fusible link is cut.

My Nighthawk is put together with wire and zip ties, burns oil, and handles like a pig.  I love it!

2 Quick tips. 1st, glass fuse holders tend to corrode and/or lose tension w/age. 2nd, wire harness  where it exits frame under tank (at front) and runs to H/l access hole sees more motion(wear) than any where else. other frequent suspects are main switch contacts and handlebar swithches.. Luck g

If you still have the original 3 fuse panel under the left sidecover - check the back of the panel for corrosion - also for loose fittings - I just replaced mine - it had a similar problem of inconsistent power, and a bit of a wriggle and all was well - until the next big bump...

i agree with all. especially the corrosion check at battery and fuse box.  i just had this happen and after cleaning and re-soldering fuse box she's all better.  as a side note, simply loose battery cables on my acura messed with all kinds of things including starting and blowing bulbs.

check the fuses with a multimeter, they should not show any resistance. a fuse can LOOK like it's ok and still be blown
