CB750 with enduro tires?
« on: December 07, 2009, 10:17:51 AM »
I am looking for photos (if there are any!) of stock (or close to stock) CB750s with enduro/road tires. Something that can go on dirt roads as well as tarmac and can hopefully accommodate the stock fender (front).

thanks
Andy

I recommend searching the advrider.com forums.  Plenty of people there have converted street bikes to dual sports.  Not sure about SOHCs, but maybe.
If you're interested in dirt roads may I suggest dunlop k70s?  My dad's Royal Enfield uses them and they're great for dirt roads and handle well on tar as well.
Good luck!

I hope I did this right,if not just go to ebay and punch in the item #. They have tried selling this for the past month. I have taken some mental notes and when I burn my tires off, this is the route I will go for sure. Sweet looking, bike but in this market and ecomomy they prolly wont get what they are asking for.

Ah very good to know! They do look like they would work well on dirt.

Jesus Freek - thanks for the link - I had seen this bike last week on Ebay and wondered if the tires would be any good on dirt roads. I think JBMorse is onto the right idea though as I have seen Royal Enfields tour the Himalayas and India - so of they can do it (on bad roads as well) then the CB750 should be able to as well.

thanks
Andy

Take a look at Kenda treads.......I use them on my XR650L and my daughter's FT500 Ascot. Be sure to use proper inflation for the pavement to prevent cupping......

My biddy Radar used Universals back in the day, the ones used on dual purpose or scramblers.. maybe they dont make them anymore?

Went pretty good in the dirt and snow..

not sure if this thread is a million years old, but avon distanzias are a very good dual sport tire and available in the front size of 100/90/19, and rears 120/80/18

that should do the trick.

Hi Andy, i'm using Dunlop K70'S on my F1  as an alternative to Dunlop TT100'S  and have found they give good grip in both the wet & the dry i'm not sure what mileage i've got out of them with out checking   ;), cheers Mick.

Thanks for getting this thread going again. Good info on the Avons and ive heard good things about them.

Mick I am particularly interested to know about the K70s as these were my initial choice. Id be curious to know what kind of mileage you get and if you think they would be able to handle dirt roads and farm tracks better than street tires.

I found this yesterday...

An Enfield running Ensign Trials tyres - I also like his bash plate as well.

The reason for starting this thread was to find a street/off-road tire that would allow decent handling on good roads and would be able to hand rough farm track/dirt road as well. And in the ideal world they would get good mileage as well. So far looks like a good few options are around...this summer will be testing time! Next year is trip time  ;)

thanks for the help
Andy

Andy........the trials tread get poor wear on pavement.  The modern K70s are for show.....very poor wear on this weight of bike, especially on the rear.  If you carry a tire inflator of some kind......take advantage of reducing the air to about 20 lbs. for off-pavement riding.......but be sure to get them up to pavement pressure when needed. I rode with my Kendas on the Bonneville salt and liked them very much. They also did well on dirt 2-tracks in Idaho.  They don't do well in mud.

Great info Dennis and I hear you about lowering tire pressure on dirt. Also good to know about the wear on the K70s. The Avons are looking more and more favourable.

thanks again

Laminar! Perfect! That was just the kind of thread I was looking for. Here is a guy with an 80s Nighthawk going to Alaska on a bike thats not a BMW GS or typical adventure tourer - that to me is real adventure  ;) So in fact this is my idea as well. Im planning a trip for next year to take my might CB750 to places that it wouldnt normally go, and this is why I am looking for a off-road/street type tire.

thanks for the great info
Andy

Thanks for the question Andy750

I'm considering this trip-
Actually just from Toronto Ont out to Labrador and back.

http://www.pbase.com/scotsrider/labrador_biketrip

on a 1978 cb750F and was wondering the same thing.  What tires?

4000 miles of ashpalt and about 500 of gravel.

Hey 2wheels some great photos in your link! I like the upturned bike one  ;) How hard was it riding on the TransLab with the GS? I have very little experience off road (which is why I need more).

When were you thinking of doing the translab and how long for? Looks like the distanizias are a good tire - what did you have on your GS?

I just saw the rest of your photos - wow respect!! You have had some great vacations!

I see in some of your photos some Hepco becker luggage on some of the bikes - have you used this luggage before? Would you recommend it for the 750 - its one of the things Id be looking at - hard luggage versus soft luggage.

My next big trip will be starting May 2011 when I ship the 750 to the UK and go see my mum in Scotland. From here I plan to drive East and attempting to reach Japan by some route or other. After this ship the bike out of Korea to either Argentina or if short on time to Oregon/LA and ride back to Boston. Hence the need for some off-road type tires for those roads that are less good....

thanks for any advice or info.
cheers
Andy

Actually that's not me, I just found the link and thought the pictures were great.

I'm still in the early planning stages, but if we go it will likely be mid Aug 2010.
The black flies will be bad but hopefully not to much rain.

It would be a riding trip not sight seeing, maybe 2 weeks.  I haven't even got the detailed maps out yet.

Ah ok got it. Well let me know if you decide to go and you get a map of the route. We had thought about doing it via Newfoundland but time was the issue.
