these people need to be tried, convicted and SHOT! both the people that stole from a dying man and the ones that watched it happen and didnt do anything about it.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say three people who noticed a man unconscious and dying in an emergency waiting room robbed him instead of going for help.

Police say 63-year-old Joaquin Rivera spent nearly 80 minutes waiting in an emergency room after complaining of pain down his side. But they say he died of an apparent heart attack at Aria Health's Frankford Campus before seeing a triage nurse.

Surveillance video shows three people talking with Rivera before he passed out and then taking his wristwatch.

Police arrested 44-year-old Richard Alten at the hospital and are seeking his companions, whom Capt. John McGinnis described as homeless addicts. Alten's public defender has declined to comment.

Aria Health also declined to comment, citing the criminal investigation and patient confidentiality.

Sure that does suck and they do deserve a lif of hard labour, but the poor bastard lay for 80 minutes in emergency. The hospital should also be shot.

INDIANAPOLIS - Ignoring his younger brother's plea of "Andrew, stop," a 17-year-old who told authorities he identified with a television serial killer strangled the boy, dragged the body to his car and drove to see his girlfriend, an Indiana prosecutor said Thursday.

Andrew Conley of Rising Sun was calm and showed no remorse or emotion as he described strangling 10-year-old Conner Conley as the two wrestled Sunday, a probable cause affidavit said. Conley told investigators he dumped his brother's body near a park in the Ohio River community about 90 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

"Sometimes people are just evil," Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard said. "This is an evil child."

Prosecutors filed preliminary charges of murder against Conley along with a supporting affidavit Thursday. Conley is being charged as an adult and will appear Friday in court, Negangard said.

Conley's family did not immediately return messages for comment Thursday. Negangard said Conley had an attorney but none was listed in the affidavit.

Fantasies of killing
The teen told investigators he had had fantasies about killing someone since he was in eighth grade, including cutting somebody's throat, and felt "just like" the serial killer Dexter on the Showtime television series of the same name. He said killing his brother satisfied a craving like a hamburger satisfied hunger.

"Like I had to ... like when people have something like they are hungry and there is a hamburger sitting there and they knew they had to have it and I was sitting there and it just happened," Conley told investigators in the affidavit.

The slaying comes six weeks after 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante told Missouri authorities she strangled, stabbed and cut a 9-year-old neighbor's throat because she wanted to know what it was like to kill someone.

The affidavit in Conley's case described him killing his brother before visiting his girlfriend and other friends. It said:

The two brothers were wrestling while their parents were at work. Conley put Conner in a headlock, causing the younger boy to pass out and fall to the floor. Conley dragged Conner to kitchen, put on a pair of gloves and choked the younger boy for about 20 minutes until he noticed blood flowing from Conner's nose and mouth.

He told investigators the child's last words were "Andrew, stop."

Body in the trunk
Conley put a plastic bag over his brother's head, secured it with black electrical tape, and dragged the body by its feet down steps to the basement and then from the home to his car. Conley struck Conner's head on the ground several times before putting the body in the trunk of the car.

With the body still in the trunk, Conley drove to his girlfriend's house and gave her a sweetheart ring. She told investigators Conley "seemed happy, more happy than she had seen him in a while."

Negangard said he will consider seeking the maximum prison term of life without parole. Conley's age makes him ineligible for the death penalty.

"I believe Andrew Conley is a dangerous person, and that's why we'll be considering the maximum penalty that we can impose," Negangard said.

Conley also told investigators that on the morning of Conner's death, he stood over his sleeping father with a knife and thought about killing him. Conley went to police Sunday night, admitted killing Conner and told investigators where to find the body.

The teen had no juvenile record and his teachers considered him a good student, Negangard said.

"This kid, Conner, was a good kid, and Andrew was an A and B student," he said. "This comes as a shock to the community."

Conley has been held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Lawrenceburg but was to be moved Thursday night to the Switzerland County Jail in Vevay.

This is not an excuse just a reason. There is a subculture that lives in a world of no values or morality as we know it. My work brings me to areas where you can sense the lack of any normal values. They of course cannot get a pass for that reason, that would only contribute to the problem. How to fix the problem, I have no clue.

There have always been aberrant people, and there always will be.  The difference now seems to be that the inhibitions that society used to impose on their behavior seems to be falling away.  The media not only advertises brutal behavior, but also glamorizes it. Look at all the shows on broadcast TV (the CSI shows, Bones, Criminal Minds, Law and Order, and on and on) that revel in the most gruesome acts as entertainment.  And people lap it up.  Pretty weird.  And weirder yet is the idea that such negativity will not have adverse effects, that it will not encourage people with several screws loose to act out their fantasies.  No doubt some maniacs will anyway, just look at history.  But I have to wonder how many that otherwise wouldn't have committed heinous acts do so after being pushed over the edge by such crap presented as entertainment.

At 8pm any given night I have to get my kids from the TV! I know the first opening scenes will be of some thing so vivid that they shouldnt see it! Thats just the big three networks. I read both stories in the paper today. The 17 year old kid scared me. How many more young people out there like that.

the standards for what is acceptable, even on the networks, to me is totally unacceptable. i'm no prude (as you all know) but i feel like there should be a higher standard for what is acceptable on television. television today i feel has desensitized our society to extreme violence and language and it's coming back to bite us in the ass now.

I have distanced myself from the popular culture of this country and at times I feel like someone peering into an insane asylum from the outside.

Spot on, you know I have felt this way all my life....But with both arms braced against the door jams to keep from being pushed in!!
The first case mentioned with the perp as being an "addict" This don't excuse anything.....
But it does lead on to another point..everyone knows (police / authorities / and us etc) that an addict on the dole who gets £40.00 per week and has a habit that costs £80.00 a day, must by default have to get £520. per week every week from somewhere else...and that somewhere else is usually us, one way or the other Or they are dealing, and causing many others to have to get that much money together every week......robberies/ break ins/ car theft / bike theft/ etc etc.....
So, why dont our governments save themselves millions per year in police and court costs, and just give anyone with an addicition what they need ....getting rid of 75% of crimes like these in one swoop.....?

They did just that in Switzerland and crime dried up,also the lure of doing something illegal wore off and piles of people just got on with their lives. I have always supported this idea but it takes the control or perceived control away from the authorities and they just won't do it. The US government spends enough money fighting drugs each year to feed the world and it isn't getting any better....time for some original thought on this subject or we will drown in crime caused by outdated laws and the small minded people that create them..

I like the show Dexter. I also enjoy fairly violent movies and always have.

The difference is my parents did a good job of teaching me what is right and what is wrong.

If that doesn't start a long debate in this thread I don't know what will. Blaming the media and TV is absurd if you ask me...but no one asked me so i'm just butting in and talking about what I think  :P

Having worked for the Justice Dept. for 25 years until I retired 2 years ago I can tell you that people are no longer constrained by morals or fear of punishment.  I can also assure you that the war on drugs is lost and was never really meant to be won.  The same percentage of people are addicts no matter what you do or do not do.
I am numb to being shocked now and my wife says that I can see a person get their arms amputated on tv and never change my expression. Most people are good but they are overwhelmed by the evil.

The porn of violence has replaced the porn of sex on the popular TV shows, I've seen it grow over the years, what was only available from the underground 30-40 years ago is now on network TV every night and why is violence more acceptable than sex, I don't know. I do know that fewer people have died from screwing than fighting (at least until aids showed up) so I guess it's time to re examine our moral underpinnings. As far as STD's killing people you can wear a condom more easily than body arnour.

I agree with you on everything. I expeierenced the same "numbness" you described a long time ago. It is a bit unsettling to those around you, but to you it seems a perfectly normal response. I am not sure it is a blessing or a curse.

Sometimes I think the kids coming up in the Hoods across America feel the same numbness since they see it all the time.

+1 If the parents or guardians don't set any boundaries of what is right or what is wrong, then the kid is left to figure it out him or her self... THATS when the violence on TV and in movies starts screwing these kids minds up worse than their neglectful parents could have. That said, there are some kids in this world who are just born sick in the head and no amount of nurturing or education will change that.

I also dig SOME violent shows and movies. What I can't tolerate are scenes of rape(how the hell does this pass as entertainment??) and gory depictions of murder. I miss the good old days when you had to IMAGINE what the horror movie villain was doing to the victims...

Just my two cents...
