Who's cool?
« on: December 07, 2009, 09:33:25 PM »
That would be me.
I was reading the Batbike thread and Ecosse was gave us the go ahead to bask in his eminent coolness over some Batbike some such.  I just wanted to brag about the coolest week ever to happen.  When I was nine and living in Macon Georgia, I met Cooter (Ben Jones) from The Dukes Of Hazard and shook his hand.  Roscoe and the Boss were wandering around with Flash, and Tom Wopat was there singing on stage.  During the week the mall had several of the General Lee's staged in the central corridor.  One of the cars was on a set of ramps that put the car into a side wheelie, another had the front up on ramps like it was just about to jump over a creek, another with the back end up in the air like it was landing the jump.  All of these cars were a little banged up from the show.  And finally one pristine general parked out in front of the pack.

Sorry, but Johnny Cash beats just about the whole cast of the Dukes, but only by a smidge...

Now if you're talkin' Daisy Duke back in 1980, that might push it over the edge. :o :o ;D

I was trying to keep this family friendly (not really)  I shook Ron Jeremy's hand at a bar in Portland about 8 years ago.

What ? there was MORE than one Dukes of hazard general lee's  ...???? I thought those Good old Duke boys patched her up whenever she got wrecked, I am sure I remember them doing it in many of the shows I saw as a youngster..
Maybe the episodes we got in the UK were different to the USA ones.
If there really were "many" general lee's (and I am still not convinced) just where did those good old Duke boys keep them hidden? Their spread (in the episodes we got in the UK at least) comprised of a farmhouse and a barn.
Given that it would have been impracticable to "hide" many general lee's in the farmhouse itself even if Daisy were to vacate her bedroom and sleep on the floor downstairs to make room for a single general lee, (which might have been visable anyway when Ma was cooking)
That would only leave the barn, where those good old Duke boys had the "Real" general Lee in anyway which I know to be true because I saw many episodes where they were indeed patching the old girl up after being chased by "Rosco" and having other misadventures.
Had there been any other "general lee's" in the barn, I am sure it would have been hard if not impossible to keep them adequately hidden for the whole two series ( and a feature film) without giving the game away.
Here ( in the Uk at least) there are a large number of folk who strongly believe in "those good old duke boys" being able to patch up the real General lee, and furthermore have used this belief , to impress friends at dinner parties with their knowledge of those good old duke boys ability to be able to repair what at first and second glance would appear irreparable especially if there was only a couple of hours before a major cross country race, where only the real general lee could win.

Rostosky: there were many General Lees in real life, not on the show.
Watch the dukes again and you'll realize one General Lee could never have lived through all those jumps.
Do a few google searches... or watch the new Dukes on DVD... they have additional footage and info about the number of cars they went through.
It was a pretty ridiculous number of cloned muscle cars that they chewed up.

and most of the general lee's were bondo buckets, i think it was speed channel did a whole episode on the general, and how on lots of the jumps they had to switch angles or cut completely due to huge (sometimes 20+ lbs.) of bondo flying off the car. they even showed them setting up a car for a jump and going through a 5 gallon bucket of bondo to prepare it for the clip...

I get the tounge in cheek now, lol.

Tongue-in-cheek is a term used to refer to humor in which a statement, or an entire fictional work, is not meant to be taken seriously, but its sarcasm is subtle. The origin of its usage comes from when Spanish mistresses would perform for various dukes in the 18th century;

As a "moonshiner" wouldn't he have sometimes have forgotten where he hid the other general lees? and wouldnt it have been dangerous for the general lee being stored near a still that might explode if uncle jess was drunk and not looking after the still properly?
Does anyone know If there was just one daisy (I really hope so, like really a lot ) or if there were "stand in daisies" too?
Last question, did daisy have any bondo making her shape?

sounds like you walked in to an annual Dukes Fest. There's more than a couple "Cooter's Place" now - so seeing him is probably not that great of an accomplishment.
