Just spent the day cleaning what must be the grimiest engine ever. Grease, cinders, tar, muddauber's nests. Used Prep-All, toothbrushes, Scotch-Brite, and Q-Tips. Not glamorous , but is now ready to paint and will leave a nice finish. But now I have to brush my teeth with my finger.

Wow,  I just found this thread and its exactly what I've been looking for.  Any new progress on the bike?  What exhaust are you planning on using.  I see you have the stock header.

Looking good

i've done a lot of work since the last photos, but haven't had my camera handy. my deadline is my 30th birthday on april 16th. we'll see if i make it...

i'm considering using one of steve carpenter's yoshi copy glasspacks, but he wanted a month heads up, and that would be pushing my deadline. i'll post some more photos soon. spent hours mudding and sanding the tank and seatpan. almost there...

okay, i got a few more shots. i got the rear brakes set up and functional (had to custom bend the brake stay to fit around the fatter rear tire), the tank and seatpan ready for priming, polished the top halves of the control housings and left the bottom halves anodized black, put the grips on, polished the clutch cover and fitted it with a new gasket...i don't wanna keep listing here, but i've been busy and my fingers hurt. still gotta sort out what muffler i'm gonna use...i'm looking for a universal slip on glasspack that sounds nice but isn't too ridiculously loud. got new intake rubbers and exhaust gaskets from honda. i'm polishing the carbs now. i hope to paint the tank this week, and hopefully fire it up as soon as i get the cables and get the carbs on. oh yeah...wiring.

the front edge of the knee insert is looking much better.

               Man,

You are creating 1 FanTasTic machine!! Everytime I see it, something else just jumps out
at you. This time it seems to be the exhaust and that gas tank! Especially the tank! The way
you shaped the knee inserts and then created that fine edge around them. I mean, looking
good. Sure would be nice to have the finished product in the gallery along with photos of the
build in progress and details of what went into it. I know what you mean about the muffler
situation. I like a good sound just as much as the next guy but, it can be too loud. Good luck.

i actually thought about banging out a couple extra tanks and ebaying them, but i'm not sure the effort and $$$ expendatures would make it worth it. makes it well worth it to do it yourself, that's for sure. we'll see how it looks painted, anyway. i'm not so sure how perfect i got the curves inside the inserts.

Seriously Paul, your bike is inspiring me to start a CB cafe project.

I have a 1982 CB650SC frame sitting in the basement right now... I'm just wondering what I can do with it... Maybe weld it into a hardtail, put some nice fat wheels on there, and work from there!

Then again, I already have one bike that's not-quite-running-yet.  The dream shall have to wait.

That is gonna be one HOT bike when you're done with it!

FIRED IT UP TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to meet my 30th birthday deadline. oh yeah, it sounds good. i made a silencer out of a 9" slip in glass pack baffle, with a chromed tip welded around it. it sounds great, but not too ridicuously loud. i even rode it around the block with no helmet, no headlight, and no license plate. but the headlight bucket, seat, and tank are primed and ready to topcoat tomorrow.

-rear shocks polished, but will probably be replaced
-front tire: pirelli speed demon 100/90/19
-rear tire: pirelli speed demon 130/90/16
-knee inserts pounded into fuel tank, much more work to come...

Hi Paulages..  Your bike looks incredible- I can't wait to see pictures of the current setup!

I have a question for you-  With the smaller diameter wheel on the rear, but a bigger tire, is the ride height the same?  Or is the rear lower/higher than stock?

PUTNAJA1--------------->
I would think (not sure) that it might be the same height.
What you are taking away in wheel diameter, you are making back up in the added rubber of the tire.
I am sure Paul will chime in...

Somehow I think the bike wasn't the only thing that's fired up. And you've got every right
to be "Fired Up" Paulages. We feel like we've been there with you on this build because of the
photos and we want to see it out to the end (of the build, that is). I, for one, hope that when
you feel you've reached the end, you'll put it in the gallery with all the photos and details. Buddy,
you and a lot of the others are the inspiration that is prompting me to go with my projects. I want
to get my plans together before I start the work. Good Work and you're building an awesome
bike. Thanks for sharing it with us and Happy Birthday. Later on, Bill
