CB750K4 Ignition Mount Gone!?
« on: December 07, 2009, 11:54:48 PM »
The PO of my CB750K4 decided to put the ignition up on the handlebars. Im restoring the bike to stock, so, I got an ignition mount (stock) from a 500 parts bike ive got and the ignition cylinder fits great. But...there is no place I can find on the frame that holds the mount. Huh? On the 500, it mounts to a plate welded to the frame on the left side (if youre sitting on the bike) I examined the frame on the 750, and I cant tell if the PO ground off the bracket or what? Where the heck does the stock ignition go? I assume on the left side, just below the front of the tank? (like the 500) anybody got an ideas?  ???

the stock igniton switch for the 1969-1976 750k was on the left side of the frame right up to the downtube on the horizontal frame rail. in the pic, it's where the orange is, right towards the front of the horizontal frame tube

thanks. Do you think I could use a "P" clamp around the frame the mount the ignition holder? (In its original location)

So thats what the stock mount looks like huh? Well...that looks nothing like the CB500 mount I have. I guess that would explain why there is nothing on the frame.  That just clamps on to the frame. Thanks Bucky. that explains a few things. ;)

Yes you can. I did and it worked out swell- specifically an electrical conduit clamp holding the little boomerang-shaped plate the PO used to mount the switch on the triple clamp. I rattle canned the brackets all black and it looks great.

Ah, this might save a new post....
having just finished restoring my frame and this bracket , I thought it would be a shame to just bolt it back on and scratch the frame up, as this was a very rusty area of the frame before I restored it , So I thought I would put a small wrap of something like thin inner tube or some other protective wrap around the frame first...but then I thought does this bracket have to be earthed at the frame ??? I am quite sure it doesn't but wanted to check...

That bracket doen't need to be grounded to the frame.

Actually, the bracket I got included little rubber pieces that go over the bracket- perfect. And no, it doesn't need to be grounded to the frame.
