Stuck Caliper Bolts ?
« on: June 16, 2015, 11:31:16 AM »
Picked up a used Caliper and Mount off of ebay from a 73 CB750. Was a real bear to remove the bleeder bolt, but after several days of soaking it with Liquid Wrench it finally came loose.

Problem I'm having now is trying to separate the 2 caliper halves held together by 2 allen head bolts. Trying to loosen those bolts, but not budging ? Do you Guys have any suggestions ?

I read on the internet that mixing equal parts of ATF and Acetone works the best, so soaking the 2 bolts right now to see if that works.

I don't want to bugger the allen head, so using good tools to accomplish this.

Bake it in the oven at 200F or so and try again.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. I don't know if my wife will allow me to stick the caliper in the oven but I do have a Heat Gun. I'm assuming that your trying to heat the caliper and not the bolts?

Steel on Aluminum,  any heating will do since the heat expansions is different.  It brakes the bond between the bolt and the thread.

I'll give it a shot with the Heat Gun and will report back. Right now I'll soak it overnight and see if that will assist with loosening.

Thank you "All" for your comments !

No offense intended, but this board is for complete PROJECTS, not on troubleshooting a portion of them.  You should post these topics on another board like SOHC4 Bikes.
