Serial numbers - non-US market
« on: December 09, 2009, 01:36:01 PM »
I received this message from a fellow SOHC/4'er in Peru:

" have a 1975 CB750Four with the followin serial numbers:
- Serie:  CB-750-2103996
- Engine: CB-750E-2422907
This serial numbers from my bike do not appear in the charts of your page.
Could you give me more information on this regards?"

Anyone know of a good chart that shows these numbers for 1975 CB750K?  Maybe there is one on www.sohc4.net and I've become blind...  It isn't confirmed 100% that the bike is a K model.  I don't have anything on the F numbers for the world market, but if anyone has that data, please let me know.

I'm no expert, but those numbers don't look right to me.  It looks like the motor isn't the original for that frame, maybe not the same year.

The story with this bike is that it was supposedly imported directly into Peru in 1975 and had one owner until recently.  The engine number is definitely way off.  The frame does not match what I have for the 1975 K or F bikes either.  My data shows the F bikes having frame numbers in this range CB750F-1###### and the K bikes of that year having frame numbers in this range CB750-25#####.  My data only has non-US numbers after 1976.

I agree that it looks like it would be a 1972 frame and a 1974 engine from the info I have.  But, would Honda have sold this combination of components in 1975?  Maybe it was through a Japanese dealership and not really a new bike.  I'll have to get him to send me pictures of the bike.

Glenn could be like UK where we had the K2 all the wat through to 75 and the numbers just kept going up

I believe you are right about that.  I just put up this page: http://www.sohc4.net/index.php?q=content/cb750-timeline that describes the CB750 model timeline.  The K2 was sold throughout the world until the introduction of the K6.  The K3 was US-only as was the K5 with the K4 selling in Japan and US.  Sounds like the frame number series was by model, not year, but that the engine numbers went by year.

Similar with the 500 in UK Glenn where the first 550 we had was the K3 along with the F1 whilst you had 550 for a couple of years

If it was in Australia, I would say it is close to original/correct K2 numbers and probably sold in 12/74.
The K2's continued to be made in most countries other than the US up until 1975. We did not have the K3/K4/K5
The frame numbers continued on into CB750-210****, but the engine numbers were consistent with US engine numbers. Thus the US engine numbering system can be used to date the bike.
If anyone in the US has a similar engine number we could probably date the bike more accurately

Same here on the continent. 1976 built CB500K2's (different from US 500K2, by the way) were sold into 1977!
