Where is the Steering Head Bearing tutorial?

I recall there was a real nice tutorial on replacing the steering head with roller bearings. It had nice pics and all. I can not locate it. Can somene get me there. Thanks...

If you can wait, I hear there's a section in HondaMan's book on that.  There are a couple of nice posts here as well.

If you have a tapered type race in there now just use a dremel and make a small tapered cut above the race. then punch it out with a drift from above. I used a piece of angle cut tubing

There are a few ways suggested in the thread but none this easy.

Don...I have the old ball bearing race in there now. I was just going to knock it out with the drift like I do with the races in car hubs. Never had problems with getting races out unless this is different. Thanks for the tip. I take it you are installing new too.

I did this about 2 months ago without the cooking and freezing, just a trusty blow torch and everything came out the same. I also had the problem of the top being a hair higher but as I'm using different headlight mounts, I don't think this will be a problem. The only thing not mentioned so far and maybe it's just me, but the lower dust seal was somewhat tricky to get in as you need to make sure the lip on the seal doesn't turn over, nothing a little patience won't cure. I will be removing the top dust seal though just to see what effect this has on my setup.

Good tip there Freak on the lower dust seal. I will watch for that. The top dust seal is not needed from what I read and I think I will not use mine. I believe if I read the tutorial correct the top seal is not needed as the top bearing nut has a dust cover there. Plus, when you leave it out it helps to get the correct spot so the fork ears fit proper again.

The cap that is attached to the nut that goes on top fits right on the top of the bearing and race, there is no "seal" per say (rubber) but with the way it fits together I agree that going without shouldn't pose a problem.

I am in the middle of a replacement like this and hope to remove a small amount of metal from the top neck race support. This will allow the new race to nest lower in the neck to properly align the top tree with the stock headlight ears.  My local shop tech is suggesting we make a cutting tool that could be shared by mail with other bearing replacements........interested?

I don't remember how much meat there is on the bottom of the top race, might not be enough to cut off to make it level. I think the best way (a.k.a. the biggest pain in the ass) would be to cut the recess in the neck so the race can seat in farther.
