any other blood donors here?
« on: December 12, 2009, 06:41:09 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone else here is a donor.  I'm doing my usual a double platelet with a red blood cell.

Yep.

In my previous job, the Blood Mobile showed up at our office complex (2500 folks) every 8 weeks and I'd give.

In the current job, it shows up, but the company provides absolutely ZERO promotion, and the buses park in a different parking lot, and most of the time I miss it.  I've only given 3x in the last 2 years.

I've given over 8 gallons over the years though.

I sure would, if I could.  Believe me- even vampires don't want my blood.

I'm over 6 gallons now. My wife too. We had a neighbor kid who was sick, he couldn't use my blood but I felt the need to do something. When I hit 2 gallons I was showing an old fellow my 2 gal pin. He had donated 19. Wow. My brother can't donate either, he had some illness when he was a kid and a severe head injury in a bike accident in Japan.

I'm not much for needles either, but where I worked (Civil Service) would give you 2hrs paid time off for giving blood and the guys talked me into going once. They poked both arms and couldn't even fill the line to the bag. ::) They gave me credit though and I went back the next time and things went well. next thing I knew, I had given a little over 2 gallons. Then, the next time I went in, they checked me and said that they couldn't take my blood any more because I was a "POSSIBLE" carrier of Hepatitis B (Not that I actually had it but COULD be a carrier. It could never be determined if it was true AND I have never been able to get Blood Services to recheck me again, to see if it still showed the same. I finally quit trying and that's been over 12yrs ago. Otherwise, I would have kept on giving even after I retired. ;)

they have finally realized they need to listen to me, theyd try and try to get a vein in my arm but those veins just roll when they try. now when they see me coming they get the butterfly out and stick me in the back of my hand the only place they can reliably get a vein, it hurts alot less there too.
