has anyone here ever set up a friction type steering damper, like the one on my suzuki titan onto a cb750? i would like to do a regular, shock type damper mounted to the steering head on one end and the other end attatched to the frame but i really cant spend anymore money on this bike and i know for sure i dont have the materials to fab up a shock type damper but maybe i do for the friction type with the knob coming up through the top yoke nut.

I didn't use it on my 750 but nearly did - I had a ceriani triumph damper that I was going to modify with parts from Phil Denton (www.phildentonengineering.co.uk) so as to get the RC damper knob. They are very simple things with just a threaded rod through the headstock and a frame mounted base with friction washers in between to provide the damping. I'm sure you'd be able to fab one in your garage Bucky with a bit of thought. Take a look at the pictures of the parts on either Phil's site or on www.discovolantemoto.com and you will see all the constituent parts needed to make it work.

My old Yamaha YM-1 had a damper like that with a big black knob and friction discs.

So did many of Honda's bikes: the CB/CL160, 175, 250 (CB/CL72), 305 (CB/CL77), CB/CL 350 until 1971. It just occurred to me that the parts on the 1970  CB350 out back might even fit! Gotta go look...

See what you started, now, Bucky?   :D

You have to add a it to your stem below the weld, either forked or d'd, to grip the damper parts that move wiith the tree, then I think you need to bracket the other pcs to the frame..
