It's a nice bike, but no I don't have the extra dough.  I'm more into buying bikes that cost $1,000 - $2,000.

i honestly dont know if i'd spend that kind of money on a 60 year old motorcycle even if i did have that kind of money. i think i'd rather get one of the modern vincent engines and a norton featherbed frame, alloy tank and seat and go terrorize the streets at WOT. mmmmmmmmmmm Norvin (in my best homer simpson imitation)

My father-in-law had one of those Vincent Black Shadows from new, damn shame ole Woggy sold it, what a barn find that would have been. :D

i understand they handled like there was a hinge in the middle of the frame. i think it might have been in one of Peter Egans columns.

Very fast for their day, probably the fastest thing in NZ for a while and as our roads were crap until about 20 years ago they probably handled like a right lig around here too. :D

i just found this picture of a nice Vincent from the vintage bike show i went to last winter... oh and sorry no $80,000 to spare. but if you get it i'll give you a few andrew jacksons to let me ride it!

"The Ducati 900 is so finely engineered and balanced and torqued that you can do 90 mph in fifth through a 35-mph zone and get away with it. The bike is not just fast -- it is extremely quick and responsive, and it will do amazing things.... It is a little like riding the original Vincent Black Shadow, which would outrun an F-86 jet fighter on the takeoff runway, but at the end, the F-86 would go airborne and the Vincent would not, and there was no point in trying to turn it. WHAMO! The Sausage Creature strikes again." ~ Hunter S. http://www.vincent-hrd.co.uk/hst.html

Before I plunked down $ on a collectors bike like that, I'd be wanting to see the before and after pics.

The auction description is kinda strange.  Been sitting for 50 years, original miles, all original.... but then he says he's had $20,000 in work done to it?

It would seem to me that you'd have to go nose-to-tail and do a complete rebuild / refinish to spend $20,000 on a project bike, even if you're paying someone to do the work.  Sounds like it might have been a rusty heap sitting for 50 years if it needed $20,000 in work to make it look like it does now.

Vincent Black Shadow?  Oh yeah, I've got one of those out back! :o I can't even imagine being able to truthfully say that. ::)  SHOOT, I've already got the closest thing that I'LL ever have, to one of those Beauties (the CBX & GPZ1100)! AND, I consider myself LUCKY to have THOSE! Sorry Jeff, I SURE don't have THAT kind of money! :-\ Sure WOULD have to wonder about the details of THAT one too, like tintin was saying.

i just told mywife, if i ever win the lottery, i want to build my very own Norvin with one of the new vincent motors and, of course, a norton featherbed frame, modern brakes and electrics with a classic look.

Cool Dream Jeff, I can only hope that some how, some day, you could actually DO that! I can clearly identify with your feeling on that. 8) ;)

Wow 65k the thing that gets me is that some one actually had the 65k to plunk down on it if they won. Must be nice.. As for the extra bucks, um er just let me print some up for you. ;) The other thing is if they sank 20k into it, even with the cost of the bike would'nt you still take the 65k that should be a nice profit even at 65k. May be I am just not understanding some thing here..

Multiple Ebay accounts are one thing to consider though.  Especially now that we can no longer view bidder information.
Easy way to spur interest and not have to pay for your own bike (or a friend's) if its under the reserve.

Ah yes.. Well I just assumed they had a way to deal with that. I guess not. So there you have it. Perhaps no one really had the 65k for it.
