Are these parts off a sandcast?
« on: December 11, 2009, 03:22:05 PM »
My lower engine casing is definitely diecast  (1011xxx). Do the head and barrels look like they could be off a sandcast? If so, how can you tell?

I think all the uppers look like that. Mine do and it is definitely not a sandcast.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

The "tell" for the top end is to look from above, later models have an additional screw on the valve cover at the center rear where it meets the head, above the cam chain tensioner.

Do you think we actually got any K0 models here in NZ TC?
I'd be suprised but hey some people emigrated here with cars so maybe. :)

I always thought "sandcast" meant the cases only. Dan

Hi Hush, a guy sold a NZ new K0 on trademe last month for $20,000. The buyer wanted an original NZ bike. I also sourced a NOS candy blue green K0 oil tank cover off an ex Honda dealer here in Christchurch. He wouldn't have had K0 cosmetics in stock if he hadn't sold K0's.

Look out Hush, it's all over the news here, a giant iceberg is headed your way.

The early jugs have alot more meat on them...preferred for big bores.....can't tell from those shots...shoot it straight on from the side....the rear of the cylinder tells the early ones.

That's interesting to know, I've got a spare K0 cylinder block here, I'll have to compare it to my diecast K0 block and ee if it's different. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
