Anyone into Brass Music?
« on: December 13, 2009, 04:54:04 AM »
Shameless post in support of my son Chris, who's band "YouTuba" have just stumped up the cash to record and produce their first commercial CD.

As the proud father, I may be a little biased but I've been to few of their gigs and they are pretty good. All four are graduates of Trinity College of Music in Greenwich, London (UK)

You can hear their stuff on their Facebook site or on their homepage and can listen & buy individual tracks online or a physical CD here.

There's a wonderful brass player on this forum, oldbiker, who sent me a recording of a performance a few years back that was a treat to listen to. Great news about your son, congrats!

Very nice Steve! Congrats on raising a free thinker. I tried to post a couple of youtube vids but either I'm not getting something...quite probable, or there's a problem somewhere else...not bloody likely. Search for "Coolbone"...brass hop, or "Pigbag"...80's brass, electro, funk, art student marching music. Very different from your son's music but outside mainstream brass none the less.

Hi Steve, I still play Soprano cornet with a local brass band but at the moment I am recovering from 2 hours of playing carols outside the local supermarket while frozen stiff. If you would like to hear me (recorded in early 1980's) click http://www.4shared.com/file/172583250/523ff9d4/Rhapsody_for_Eb_Soprano.html
Merry Christmas, John.

Here's Chris playing with Dennis Rollins at a brassfest this summer - (Chris is the one with the silver tuba)

Pretty amateurish camera work - the poor girl was deafened - as you can see it's quite a small room.

Hi John. Good to hear from you again.

Later this month there's the annual London Colleges' Tuba&Euph carols outside St Pauls Cathedral.

Freezing last year but at least the afternoon went quickly...   (insert any number of brass musicians / drinking gags here)

Believe it or not Chris, that was recorded in the bandroom on a 'Boots' cassette recorder and when I came across the cassette in my workshop about a year ago I transferred it onto my computer using the freeware program 'Audacity'.  The quality of the recording surprised me but as it is the only reminder of what I used to be capable of I was delighted. All the best, John.

Love their rendition of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy".
Awesome. I'm not a 'brass band' guy, but this is pretty good :)

Love their rendition of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy".

You should hear their arrangement of the "Jungle Book" - complete with acapella vultures!
