okay....now what?

Okay....now what?

(Regarding dual front disc brakes)

Since my bike is a '77 model 550K, and therefore both fork sliders are the same, what caliper is used for the left side to match the factory right side one?  It looks as though the GL1000 master cylinder is the way to go, and the brake lines and T are pretty straight forward....rotor is straightforward, and the speed sensor has to be modded....only thing left to figure out is the caliper.....

Please help!

You take a stocker apart, swap the halves on the center bracket, and screw it back together.

That's how the CB750 works, I think its the same for the 550s

You swap it with itself. The half of the caliper that was on the inside of its bracket moves to the outside, the outside moves to the inside. Put the bolts back in. Voila, a caliper for the other side.

I used a Nissin (5/8 bore) on both of mine. Works fantastic. Here's a pic for illustration.

You may want to see how your stock one feels first. But in theory you would need to upgrade to a MC that's pushing more fluid, as you have more fluid to be pushed. I've heard good reviews of the GL MC. But any from a dual disc bike may be an improvement.

Over the years, I just got some from a salvage yard with no ID and they worked fine.

Thanks much.  Need to go shopping now....:D

Might need to find a 650 head and cylinders as well for future.... :-\

(Having visions of overbored 650 slugs and a ported 650 head, with CR Carbs and 4-1 someday MAYBE)
