I never looked at jp cause I bought IC's rim and picked up some spokes for it at ebay so I should be all set.
However I did bookmark the site for later as I will be redoing my front rim next season.. ;)

Well here is what I found after taring into my front rim.. Note the rusty AND bent spokes. I have ordered replacements. Another set back but not a real bad one..

Tomorrow is another day..

Well managed to lace up the rear wheel, I could not do it the way the guide said to, basically I had to lace both types of spokes the same direction. It works. I put it on the axle and spun it and it turns nicely, however I am not done there are some spokes not snugged up yet. More work on that tomorrow.

I also put on several coats of primer and one coat of paint its looking good. Should have pic's tomorrow also. I did find out that the axle I have is not the correct one, it has a BIG gap around the hub and brake cover. I had not noticed that before, so its off to find the right one. I also have the controls primed and ready for paint in the Morning. All and all a good day dis-spite the humid and raining conditions.

So I managed to get some work done. Some things came in, the spokes for the front, my decals for the tank and for my gauges. Below is a pic of the finished product. Note the gold ring? Its more noticeable in person, the picture came out dark. Once I have this thing together I will take some pic's in the sun light..

I also did some other things. Tank is almost complete, however I ran out of paint. Gonna have to wait until tomorrow to finish.

The thing I don't understand Scott....is you have told me that you bike will not be anything near mine....yet, I see what you are doing, and you are putting my build to shame!

BTW, thanks again for the headlight bolts!

Thanks Joe, I am pretty sure it wont win any prizes but so far I am happy with it. I am not sure about the way the rear wheel is laced. I may take it apart and see what I can do. Other then that its moving right along. As much as I love the look of spokes, I am beginning to think you have the right idea with the lesters!
Still looking VERY much to seeing yours on the road in the day light. Mine also but.. I think yours will sure be a sight to see..

Scott, the tach looks great.  I've yet to tear into mine - still holding out hope I can get a 650 cam w/ tach.  I followed your lead and ordered spokes front/back, too.  I just couldn't get mine to clean up.  Nice progress - you're keeping me motivated!

it's my understanding that the spokes only fit one way ... my set had inside spokes and outside spokes (they where obviously different)
you can see in this shot that the outside ones have a little bend in them to go around the hub

and IC's don't
if yours is tight and true, then it's probly right

Ok I will try it again. There are 20 inners and 20 outers.. The way it is now it runs true and is tight, however half the spokes don't seem to sit correctly so I am thinking its not correct the way I have it.

I have to finish the front hub as well as I have new spokes for that and want to get them both up to get tires mounted etc..

Thanks for the photo..

hey scott- you might have your over under switched. it looks like it's out of order compared to mine.
if you compare your pic to mine, my clockwise facing spokes are under, while yours are over.
that might give you a binding feel to the nipple as you're tightening.

the spokes are supposed to touch each other.
my inner spokes had a slight bend 30% of the way up the shaft.
i don't know if yours do or not.
everything I say is pure speculation and

Yes, 20 had a slight bend to them and the others no bend. I will have to try again. The pictures in the tutorial show the inners (the ones you start with) as being in the inside and having the bend in them. I reread the article and he seems to correct this but does not say it was wrong to begin with. When I tried it the way the tutorial shows it pulled the hub out way past center.. This is some thing I am going to work on later today/night. I have to get a polisher or a new drill to finish my front hub so when I take my daughter to her checkup later I will hit the local Lowes and see what they have.

I agree.. however its fantastic looking when its done right and shines in the sunlight.. ;)

I think to do this I am going to bring the rim inside the house and do it at the table. It will be easier for me and may get me divorced.. ;)

Ok its still not working.. I am not sure at this point what I am doing incorrectly..

Here are the spokes, inner and outter..

Inner

Outter

Here is what happens when I lace the rim.. Notice how its pushing the hub to the outside of the rim..

From this side, I can not even get close with the spokes..

Errr.... Does it matter what side of the rim I start on? The innertube hole on the top or on the bottom?

Here's a pic of my spokes. Download it to your computer and you can enlarge it a couple of times to get a better idea of how they go. Hope this helps:

The bike is looking good, BTW. Keep up the good work!

Thanks SohRon, its coming along, however no where near as nice as yours.. I am trying to strap on a 16" rim on my 550 Hub so I think the spokes are laced differently since the spokes that came with the kit are very short..

Inner

Outter

that's how my spokes look too, but I laced all mine on the inside.

the ones with the little bend in them are the "behind and clockwise'' ones.
they go this way > /

the straight ones go this way > \

that's how I did mine.

Thanks IC, then that is how I will do mine. I can not figure out how to get them to go the way Spikeys does, but then my kit might be for lacing they way yours is not his.. I know they have kits for both ways after doing some searching. However there is no info on the kit I bought so I just have to guess at it then.

Thanks! Now to finish lacing them and get the front done so that next Wednesday I can take em up and get tires mounted.. YEAH!! Getting closer to getting done.
