Did you do motor work or is it stock?  Or has someone previously done work on the motor?  What's the story on the motor? Do you know it's history?

Yeah, I am full of questions this morning.

Look forward to some progress shots once it's outside even if it does have the old seat...

David
Thanks David,
I should have some shots up of it out side (old seat or not) some time Sunday evening. So please do come back and take a look. As for the motor I have no idea if the motor has been fixed up or not. From what I can see the bolts and gaskets seem to be about as old as the bike, however I have not cracked open the motor so I can not say for sure. Also the speedo and tach can not be from this bike so I don't' even know how many miles are on it. I am hoping to find out all that next season.

.: Scott :.

P.S. I love questions, since it some times helps me find flaws and issues I am too ignorant to find on my own. So ask away!!

Aye!

Note: I don't think the police around here would cast a vote for that.. ;)

edit: Wow I just noticed you can really see that yellow wireharness. I guess I will have to get some black wire wrap and do that again.. Well next time I have a month to kill.. ;)

Is there a yellow wire harness in there? All I see is Gold...
Now when you start gold plating brake drums and other aluminum parts I'm going to worry your OTT

Saw some metal parts that were originally cadminum plated that had oxidized, the owner cleaned them up and did a nice job priming and sanding and priming until they were smooth as the proverbial baby's behind and then shot them with a gold paint and it looked muted but tastefully done as the gold wasn't overpowering.

Did you urethane your paint job?
The R&E Urethane looks good and its a 2 part aerosol...seen it on a few other bikes on the forum.
I figure I'll do that to my '74 when I repaint the tank in a couple weeks.

Naw, its all RustOleum rattle can paint, with RustOleum clear coat (about 3 coats) and that is pretty much it. I wanted to do powder coat gold metal flake, too expensive, then I thought the 2 stage deal everyone on here says is awesome, however again it was too expensive, so.. However when it comes time to redo every thing I will infact do powder coat, I have started a slush fund for it.

If you can do the 2 stage thing, you should especially with the tank.. You wont regret it.. Keep me posted on the build I would like to see how it comes out and how hard it was to deal with.

So some progress last night. I have the tank on, ready for fuel.. I am hoping there are no leaks at the hoses or any thing. I do now have an issue, the stock seat is too long and now wont close. So no riding for me until I get the one I ordered and trim it down about 1/2 or so. The weather looks to be rainy and cold this weekend so I am hoping for some sun Sat or Sun so I can roll her out and get some pictures in the daylight and see where my flaws are.

I also found a Speedo and Tach from some bike, they are the same size as the stock ones I have but they are chrome other wise they seem to be almost a perfect fit, if I can get them mounted I will use those as they are in better shape then the stock ones I am using and they are all chrome and stuff.. ;)

Well more later..

yeah we need to see that beautiful gold in the sunlight....
are you going to do any more gold on it? it would probably be easy to have too much, i guess. i wonder how a gold chain would look... im just dribbling out, here.

Um. well I have a gold chain on it.. ;) Its covered some what by the chain guard, witch I have to cut up a bit, the wider tire is keeping it from fitting on the mounts for it. It would be very easy to have too much gold for sure.

I agree with the idea that "it's easy to have too much of one thing"
I did that with  holes, now I'm slowly transitioning to a different (less holes) pattern.
when I get the money I want to do gold anodized aluminum hoops to match the forks and 20 black spokes on each wheel.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

Nice work!  I really dig the gold.  I did my 400twin in silver metal flake.  It pops in the sunshine...

Keep up the good work.

Ok so hear is the run down. The weather sucks, rain and in the low 40's other wise I would have taken her around the block.. errrrr....

So here is my laundry list...

  • Tach is acting all goofy, so for now I am going to try and swap it and the speedo out for a spare set I have that came as spares with the Suzuki bike, not sure how it will work.
  • Fuel petcock decided to leak, not bad mind you a drop or so every 1+ hours. However its only going to get worse so I need to get it rebuilt or replaced.
  • The stock seat is way too long, so I need to mod that once my replacement cover and foam show up some time around the 20th.
  • I ordered passenger pegs that are just like my pegs only shorter and a bit smaller.
  • Kick stand (altho Chrome and cool) is too long so may have to put the stock one back on.
  • Bike starter, however the starter button is toast, however I am leaving it for now and will replace the controls for the ones I really want once I find them.
  • I forgot I have K covers not F, like every thing on this bike its a mixed bag, so I mod'ed the right side one by turning the one post sideways and expoxying it to the cover and so far its holding.
  • The rear fender bites, however I know the one I want just need to find it, in the mean time it will work ok.
  • I am also going to replace the MC for the front tire with one from a VT 750 its lower profile will look better, just waiting on the rebuild kit for it. So that will be a while yet.
  • I still have to mod the chain guard so that it fits with the wider rear wheel.
  • I have a broke wire in the headlight bucket, however its for the turn signal and does not seem to be effecting much so for now I will leave it and get it later.
  • I need a new head light ring, mine is dented and a bit rusted.
  • Still have to lace the front wheel, tho I am thinking I need a thinner front wheel about 19" like the stock one. I don't know how possiable that is and still be able to use the stock brakes etc. I have to look into that.
  • Stainless brake lines (This will wait till the fall)
  • Video camera, I am thinking about some thing like this, http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ATC3K_Action_Camera_By_Oregon_Scientific.html just need to find it cheaper if I can.
  • Lots more beer!!!

Lol yea.. actually, most of that stuff I can do. The only thing I am really waiting on is the seat, and actually if I can find a way to mount the old one and have it some what stable I will do that and just ride it around here to brake it in and make sure every thing else is sound before going to, oh I don't know.. RockerBox? ;)

You could do a camera like the guys used for RC Aircraft and mount it to your helmet... or handlebars with a little fabrication.

FlyCamOne V2 or FlyCamOne3/FCO3 @ hobby lobby in TN
http://search.hobby-lobby.com/psearch/svc/search.php?uid=1&q=flycamone

The FlyCamOne V2  will do VGA video at 28fps (VGA 640 x 480) and costs $79.99
A 2GB card can give you about 30 minutes of recording.
The optional 1000mAH lipo will give you up to 2.5 hours of recording but you'll need a larger SD or multiple SD cards. I think the limit for the card size is 8GB but it needs to be a fast write speed card.

Thanks, I will have to take a look at that. We have a Hobby Lobby 10min from here.. The only thing they don't mention is does it include sound? The one I linked to is one used by Motorcycle Mag, and it has a built in wind screen so what you hear is just the roar of the bike (a some little sounds of wind in the back ground) however being I have a tight budget this one just may work out nicely.

Well the Sun is out and its going to be round 60 today, however its Mothers day so I have to goto the inlaws with the family.. errrrrr Maybe I can get some shots of the bike and maybe a quick ride before we leave.  Wish me luck!!

Thanks!

This is a Hobby Lobby but not the crafts place, a RC airplane place in TN near Nashville.
Sorry don't think you are going to find it at that Hobby Lobby.
Follow the link and see.
I think the video capabilities are the same for the FlyCamOne V2 or the FlyCamOne3/FCO3
The pan tilt being a difference.
With the vibration of the four you probably would do better using it helmet mounted and then it tracks with where you are looking. A wire through the tilt control and then hot glue or similar to the body could fix the tilt function.
Since you would want it to horizontal (unless you plan to video edit and rotate 90 degrees every video) you would mount it to the front in a vertical fashion as it shows on the mount.
Be sure to tether the camera so it can't go flying off at speed. It has a safety loop for you to attach a wire or string for that purpose. Dental floss is light and very strong or use a stainless steel safety wire.

The pan and tilt function is cool if you can move it with a remote but if it is helmet mounted you can do the same with the cheaper camera. Just have to move your head slowly so people don't get motion sickness you you moving too fast.

The FCO3 is new and has more capability including a telemetry system where the person can use the goggles to fly the plane. $$ option
