that's what mine was doing, the slides still had some fuel goo that refused to come off, even under a wire wheel.

I added that stuff and rode around for a day, the next day I started it and they weren't sticky anymore

Sweet  I will let you know how it works out.. I hope it works like that I really don't want to pull the carbs yet..

So I drained the oil from the front forks.. Smelled nasty, like Oil, Water and Trans fluid that has been sitting in there for over 30years. So I guess I never did any thing with these forks.. I checked and the other forks (the ones that came with the bike) are the ones I cleaned up and replaced the oil in. So later I am going to put some new fluid in them and tomorrow take it out for a test run and see how she handles. Also going to put some of that stuff IC recommended in the tank and see if that free's up that carb.

Edit:
Well just found out I can't get the tops off the forks with out my center stand. So I am painting it up and will have to put it on tomorrow. Also gonna have to take off the handle bars. I also have been working on the seat, its just too long. I am going to have to figure out how to trim it down with out it looking like crap..

That's it for tonight I am too tired to do any more.

Ah man, whats up? What trouble have you gotten yourself into now? ;)

I put the center stand on today and got the oil in the forks.. No easy feet as I had a graduation party to goto for the inlaws and my own b-day party and etc.... However when I got home and realized I left the A/C on in the garage I was more then happy to spend all the time in the world in there!!

Well off to bed..

I don't have AC in mine but I have a bathroom!

AC and cable would be nice. But then people would want to hang out and I would never get anything done!

I am jealous of the AC though, keeps the sweat out of your eyes!

I agree.. That will be in the next garage.. I could not work out there with out Internet, I am such a newb still I am always looking things up. Now if Kirk, or Spikey were to stop by and spend a day in the man cave I could do with out the Internet.  The AC is mandatory, heat and I don't get along. Plus it makes painting in the humidity better, as it draws out most of the moisture in the air..

How ever its a small garage, only 1 1/2 car so space is at a premium. Cable is good when the wife has "friends over" that I don't want to deal with..  ;D Also is a good excuse for the guys to hang..

So a few set backs, some how I got brake fluid on the and around the MC and it bubbled the paint (problem with spray painting with rattle cans) and when I was wiping off the paint, some got on my tank and it also started bubbling.. So I will have to take that off and do it over, this time I will be able to use the gold Honda emblems.  ;D One or more carb is filling up to much and causing some gas puddles when sitting still. However if I shut off the gas just before I turn off the bike it does not leak, so I am sure its an easy fix, however I still have a sticky slide that I have to deal with. I took it out for a short night ride and the thing lights up beautify.. Nice to actually see the turn signal lights and neutral switch light all bright like that. I fixed the seat the best I can for now. It looks better just not how I wanted it to look, however it will do for now. A guy (older guy, gray hair etc..) almost ran off the road on his HD checking out my bike. Met him later at the gas station. We had a talk and a few laughs.. Was fun..

Oh yea, had another (the same) cop follow me all over the village.. hum.. maybe some unwanted attention.. ;)

Oh yea, riding video this coming weekend, assuming it does not rain..  I have every thing I need to do it.

Yea, they are alright.. Still I carry my badge just in case.. :) The one around here is a Barney Fife type, he is on duty from 2pm to 11pm from 11pm to 2pm we have county cops patrolling the area..

Hey Spikey, feel like making me a seat? :) I saw your video's and I may just give up on the one I have in favor of a better custom one, I just don't have the chops to pull it off..

Good morning.

I noticed you posted on travelers page you were having carb problems? High idle when warm?

We should be able to figure it out in a night! ;D

Good morning.

Oh I know what the problem is, the slider on the #1 carb is sticking.. If I reach down and push down on the bar that goes across all the carbs it drops to a normal idle.. I actually noticed it when I put the carbs on the bike after I painted every thing. I took the top off and looked it over, it seems to be very clean, so I am thinking perhaps the body got warped or some thing while sitting on the bench.. Bottom line is I have to take that carb apart and see if its rubbing or if its just sticky for some reason like varnish. I also noticed one or more of the carbs is leaking just the smallest amount while sitting.. If I shut the gas off, it stops.. So my floats need adjusting.. So.. If not this weekend, then next weekend I have to pull them all off and work on them and repaint the motor where the gas has leaked on to it. I am hoping to do it this weekend, so I can make Road America.. However its looking like I won't make it this year dang it.. The good-news is Rockerbox in Milwaukee is possible if I get it buttoned down..

The good news, is when I hit the throttle it comes to life, so at least I can still ride it.. Its just getting to be a pain to reach down at every red light to drop the idle..

Thanks..

TTYS,

Not always the float adjustment. Sometimes the float needle doesnt shut off the flow all the way and allows gas to flow buy and slowly fill your carbs till they overflow. Hold a clear tube......wait... nevermind the 550f carbs have the overflow and the drain separate. Well while you have the carbs off clean the float needle seats with a q-tip to make sure there is no crud on them letting them leak.

Zaipai,

Really need to provide a little more info than you have on the CB550 rebuild in the BOTM thread...

Share what the rebuild entailed...
What kinds of paint and if you clear coated parts or not. The fact it was a budget build and it's a rider...not daily yet but, I'm presuming it will be.
That it's your first build or nth build...or first Honda build...
How long it had sat before your rebuild...

Details man, details...involve your voting community to know the love and sweat and pain of the rebuild.
Win the hearts and minds...
Don't tell them you have such a cushie mancave environment...AC/heat, cable and stereo...gee   ;D :o ;)

I'll vote for you when they set the polls...

Traveler, will they nominate your bike again or is it a once up arrangement...

David
