550k vs 550f redline
« on: December 13, 2009, 11:41:48 pm »
I just came across this site (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CB550) and it states that the redline for the 550f is 11000.

Is this true?

I thought the engines are the same between the two (f and k) models and the only difference was the frame.

My redline on my 74 550 is 9200.

All the CB550 engines were effectively the same, both F model and K model.  Neither model offered any performance advantage over the other, except maybe in overall weight.
The gearing was the same as well.  17T front and 37T rear sprockets.
The Wiki article is just plain wrong.

Maybe the writer got confused with the CB500?

Anyway all the engines were red-lined at 9200, but would go over that line easily.  Just how much, I'm not sure?  I wouldn't be THAT surprised at 11000, with a good valve spring set, and a very good points set.

It seemed kind of high to me, but I was unsure.

Thanks TT

I think 11,000 is when the needle comes out of the red at the top---must be safe it aint in the red any more (ducks the flying brickbats!!)
