Counted my numbers, and it is a '76 F1 engine: 33 to 32 = 0.969

Rob

which makes the F1 and K7 the same. No wonder,as the K7 uses a gear from F1 (392 No.for the countershafts gear). And the further up posted 0.939 would be right, if it would be 33 to 31 but that would not fit together in the same spacing between shafts. The 0.939 has to be wrong.
All gears therefore the same on all modells and interchangeable.

Its mate on the finalshafts counts 50; Haynes and part list say 56.

Seems to me that Honda made a mistake when counting  ???

Mike

I found a couple of sprocket shafts  in my piles of junk yesterday, interestingly the 77 F2 gear has 50 teeth, but the K3 gear has 56. I haven't found the mating gears yet to count their teeth to work out the ratio's, but the F2 gear's teeth are "coarser" (larger teeth) and won't mesh with the K3's "finer" teeth, so I guess Honda beefed them up as part of the evoluntionary process of this engine.

The F2's gear does look slightly smaller in diameter than the K3's, so this might account for the F2's slightly lower final gearing. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

They may have changed the pressure angle, 14 1/2 & 20  degrees are most common. If they changed it , it may be for noise? reasons.

I am surprised by the spline wear I saw on a 78 output shaft, dont think I ever saw that kind of wear on an earlier shaft.

Thanks, this claryfies a lot.  There is a difference in teeth numbers starting with the F1 as these final drive gears carry 392 part numbers. up to probably K5 or K6 its 48/56 =0,857 compared to the later 43/50 = 0,86. Whatever reason they did that for, its almost the same ratio.
The first to 5th gears themself have through all years the same ratios. When rebuilding my K7 transmission last year, I took what I could get as new part. I replaced all the gears from 2nd to 5th. And even a gear with 410 number from the F2 which you would asume to have some mayor changes, looked definitely the same as the one I replaced.  Still interesting that Honda never changed the final gear teeth numbers listed in the parts list. At least they didn't in the German version.

Greetings

Mike

P.S. sorry Bender for steeling your thread, but this has been a question bothering me for a long time.

:-[ getting doubts about me beeing right with my asumption that 5th gears on counter and main have remained the same number of teeth over the years.

Just found this thread. But I still can't imagine how that did fit together. Anybody out there who can explain?

Okay, Mystic, your catch should make ESPN"s web gems of the year...the teeth counts do NOT match..WTF!...I only counted two gears...the troubled C5 gear and the one at the opposite end which we've been discussing.  For the C5 gear, the original tranny broken gear had 31 teeth, tranny just received, 32 teeth...argh...the countershaft gear at the other end, original 44 teeth (or thereabouts) and the tranny just received 48 teeth

Well done Bendy, I decided that I'm just gonna sell my F2, so as the sprockets were new I just bought a nice big lump of 630H chain and installed it, but if you're going to keep your bike, the 530 is the way to go. Cheers, Terry. ;D
