Its mate on the finalshafts counts 50; Haynes and part list say 56.
Seems to me that Honda made a mistake when counting
Mike
I found a couple of sprocket shafts in my piles of junk yesterday, interestingly the 77 F2 gear has 50 teeth, but the K3 gear has 56. I haven't found the mating gears yet to count their teeth to work out the ratio's, but the F2 gear's teeth are "coarser" (larger teeth) and won't mesh with the K3's "finer" teeth, so I guess Honda beefed them up as part of the evoluntionary process of this engine.
The F2's gear does look slightly smaller in diameter than the K3's, so this might account for the F2's slightly lower final gearing. Cheers, Terry.
Thanks, this claryfies a lot. There is a difference in teeth numbers starting with the F1 as these final drive gears carry 392 part numbers. up to probably K5 or K6 its 48/56 =0,857 compared to the later 43/50 = 0,86. Whatever reason they did that for, its almost the same ratio.
The first to 5th gears themself have through all years the same ratios. When rebuilding my K7 transmission last year, I took what I could get as new part. I replaced all the gears from 2nd to 5th. And even a gear with 410 number from the F2 which you would asume to have some mayor changes, looked definitely the same as the one I replaced. Still interesting that Honda never changed the final gear teeth numbers listed in the parts list. At least they didn't in the German version.
Greetings
Mike
P.S. sorry Bender for steeling your thread, but this has been a question bothering me for a long time.
