Replacing CB500 Fork Dust Seals
« on: December 14, 2009, 11:54:44 AM »
When I got my CB500, the dust seals were about halfway ripped off the bike, but, taped together with electrical tape!  So, I ripped most of them off, except for a little bit at the bottom. My question is: I have seen the later CB550s with just the small dust seal at the top of the lower legs of the forks. Does anybody know if I can order a set of dust seals for say, a 78 CB550, and they will fit my 73 CB500? Or is there another year CB's dust seals that will fit my CB500?  I think the look of them will complement the style of the bike im going for better, plus im going to get some aftermarket headlight ears as well. The pic on the left is what I had. The pic on the right is what I would like.

Sure, that will work just fine. I did
that on my 500. Order the earliest year
dust caps for the 550, which I think is 1976 (?)
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

Look on the CB500Twin parts list they are the same part and easier to find!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
