Repairing Torn Diaphragms
« on: November 23, 2009, 10:27:02 AM »
Has anyone had luck using Hondabond or Elmers Probond to repair torn diaphragms?  Are there any other methods I am unaware of?  At $100 a pop, anything is worth a try.  Do Mikuni carburetors have slide diaphragms as well as it may be cost effective for me to switch these carbs out at this time?  Thanks for any information.

I  had this happen with my FZR. I just bought a used set of carbs from ebay and used the diaphams from it.

I used some Scotchkote Electrical Coating on my 360 CV's last summer.  Tears wasnt bad.  Still seem to be holding up afte 500 miles or so.

Yeah, mine are probably too bad to even mess with but I'm CHEAP.  So I am going to try and rehab them with a bonding agent.  I will post my results but don't hold your breath on this working out due to the terrible condition they are in.

I used contact cement on my GPZ carbs. Still runs perfect 10 years later.

What he said.  ;D

I used some silicone gasket goop to fix some on an old Kawi, worked fine.

Mine was too bad to salvage, it more less fell apart all the way around. I shelled out the bucks and ordered a new one but have some Hondabond if my other diaphragm ever gets pinholes.
