Picture of the Month?
« on: December 15, 2009, 08:39:45 AM »
I was just in the garage and saw the bike next to a couple of our cars from the same vintage and thought what a cool picture it would make.  Then I thought that a POTM might be a cool idea if we don't have something like this already.  Obviously taking a picture is much easier than building a bike so there might be a flodding of submissions but it could produce some really nice photos. Just a thought...

Any restrictions? For example, any bike, or is it to be limited to SOHC4's? By themselves or can another non-SOHC4 appear in the pic?

Just thinking... for a change. ;)

SOHC's would be the obvious choice but good photos are good photos.  I'm just a Hot Shot so I will leave the hard decision making up to the pros.   :)

I think this is a good idea.  I love to see the bikes, but there should be a better background than just the garage door.  Get those bikes out of the driveway to take the pictures.  Get imaginative.  (Shameless plug: See the photos in my thread linked in my signature.)   ;) ;D

Picture of the day or Picture of the week would make it more dynamic, no?

what about edited/photoshoped pics!?!?!

not as in slapping a tank on a pic to see what it looks like but you know what i mean.

i say thats fair game as well.

Maybe there should be a limit of only one photo per contestant per voting period.  That way it insures that only the Oakland Raiders can play themselves and still lose.

Edit:  Oh, and thanks MCRider!   :)

I would prefer the subject matter of the picture to be real and in use. At a track or on a trip, preferably out of town. Maybe in a show.

No driveway shots, (thx soichiro), no fantasies.

That would keep the number of submissions down and maybe get us out on the road a bit more.

That's just me. A little different than what Gorms had in mind, so whatever the group decides, if anything.

I am perty sure it is real and it is in use.  I use it as my Facebook avatar.  Will something like this work?

Doesn't this already exist?

Since we have one of those, how about a thread of just pics that people find interesting?  Well, that wraps up BobbyR's thread so what other ideas are out there, lol.

I know there is a "lets see your bike on the road" thread but I had envisioned something where the pictures were much higher quality.  Pictures suitable for framing or desktop wallpapers or magazine centerfolds, not just snapshots taken with a bike in them with a camera phone.  The photos could be photoshopped for effect if necessary.  ...Photos that actually take into consideration the basic of professional photography: frame, contrast, tone, fore/background, etc...

the picture i was going to use for my business (fat cat vintage cycles) is of Gus, sitting on the seat of my k4 750. he looks like he's getting ready to go for a ride, with his feet on the seat and his hands on the bars. basically a large black and white bowling ball with arms and legs.
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

I've got a cool pic. I took it this weekend I went to "gaps" house to buy his bike from the classifieds. Nice bike. He had this in the back yard. I thought it was the coolest lawn art. It has like a 5' rear wheel and a 6' front wheel. The motor is an antique milk jug with three electrical conductors, Eric calls it a three cylinder rotary, the tank is two old street light covers. It is just cool to me.

Not a bad pic but that angle makes the tach look like a skyscraper. Not a big fan of the 'angle' either. The pic in your avatar is better, giving a full veiw of the tail section.
What happened to the pics of the bike with your vintage cars? Would like to see what else is in  your garage.

Nice pic.  I like different angles, give the bike a different look.

I did that some with momma's bike.  That is the only one I could find. The others must be on the home computer.

Yes, that is a king/queen seat on it.  Changed that out after the pic was taken.  I had that seat cut down some and some new foam put in.  It is so comfy but it will prolly not get used again.  Never really did get used, lol.

It still has the 18" wheel in the rear in this pic.  I had just put the front tend back on.  I kinda like the quarter fairing and then I kinda don't.
